Large Fine Strong Hooks?

FW people,

I'm chasing some big hooks for fishing unweighetd SP's, I want them XXL and as light as possible but strong enough to not have to worry about straightening/snapping.... No Offset...

We used some fine strong hooks on Sails years ago in Broome that were ideal for setting in the beak and strong enough to land Sails to 20kg without problem...

Some of you sail chasers might have an idea,

Mainly Chasing Dhui's, fellas that are rigging 8-10" SP's might have my solution...

Cheers

Boon

Demon Hooks

Fri, 2014-08-15 19:20

I like to use Mustad Demon circle hooks, as have had a few Owner 7/0 hooks shear clean off before breaking 15lb braid from stingrays.

Demon hooks are Good value in multi packs.

sl12,s are not very strong, I cringe running them on 15kg. What about Pakula Dojo's they come in a heavy gauge and a light gauge. The heavy gauge is still pretty thin and are super sharp, the thinner gauge we have bent a few on the leader (with bills). The Owner Jobus are pretty heavy duty hook but penetrate really easy because of their barb set up. Easily set a hook on 10kg with these but really strong even have welded eyes.

Never had a sl12 straighten on 15kg. Had a few that I have straightened once the tag was in and leader was swung off. They are much stronger than you think. After saying that I have heard there was a bad batch of them getting around.

 15kg won't be a problem.

15kg won't be a problem. Just don't run stupidly small hooks. I used to use the 8/0s as a single lure hook before all the other styles came onto the market. Never bent any on 50lb braid..

Gamakatsu SL12's are an awesome hook if you want something strong but still fairy light guage. TT have actually built jigheads around the SL12's in the 10/0 size ranging from 1oz to 4oz. Awesome jigheads for those slightly bigger soft plastics. We use them on PE2-PE3 without any problems whatsoever.

I use them on my Richter soft Oscars. Almost 100% hook up rate. I did break one just behind the barb once, but I think due to excellent penetration the hook was dug into the bill/mouth and all the leverage was on the barb recess. Hope that makes sense. Went to Jobu's after that and found the hook up rate not quite as good. So back SL 12's
