Knockin over those pesky rabbits

Took a quick spin to a mates farm to plug a few rabbits and they were out in force last night.

Got about 25, all but about 3 on foot.

Those 3 from the car window.

25 rabbits in one night is a damn good haul

Do you normally keep them for the roasting pot? Or is there some mixamatosis amongst some of them?

i love a good fresh fees of rabbit, been a while since I had some too. Might have to get out into some rural paddocks to see what's about.

na I dont eat them these

Wed, 2014-09-24 07:34

na I dont eat them these days, used to but not nowadays.

Just a pastime Ive enjoyed since about 12 years old, rabbits and possums in NZ and foxes here.

Getting out in the open, almost always by myself.

Nice Shooting.

Hard to tell but in the last photo the rabbit apears to be in good condition. My mates and I use to shoot a few many years ago over Vic and it was always on the menu at my folks house, actually everyone i know used to eat them, now living in the west and I hardly ever hear of them being a source of food. Maybe because of deseases or baiting and deciding if there fit for consumption has put a few people off, or maybe its the Perth Metro life and im out of touch.

yeah the top one in first pic

Wed, 2014-09-24 08:41

yeah the top one in first pic was quite fat as well, this is only a small property, 100 acres and I mostly shoot over the mirror and out to 60-70 meters.

But the grass is longer now so on foot is the go, can get up close, too close sometimes, under 10 meters with a 4x scope can be hard in long grass

Bunnies

Wed, 2014-09-24 08:06

Thats a good haul there mate. The properties we visit, we are lucky to see 10 or so, although I haven't been for a about a month, they may have bred up

As for eating them, I grew up on them and refuse to eat them now. A mate knocks them off, cleans them and sells them for $25 each, he can't keep up!!!

Underground mutton

Fri, 2014-09-26 19:48

Nothing wrong with a bit of underground mutton, son Jeff does a magic sweet and sour rabbit dish that is nearly to die for.

Get the air rifle out now and then to knock a few over for a bit of sport and mainly for a feed.
