Its more about finding the
Its more about finding the right sort of bottom features rather than the actual location mate. Look for sand patches between weed and reef. Just move around a little until you start to get a fish or two.

Cockburn Sound you get some
Cockburn Sound you get some sized ones but not the big thumpers as often
Have a look at Google Satellite maps over Southern Flats and Parmelia Bank for sand patches in the weed and start there
Try a drift over those contrast spots where the weed and sand meet

As above
Like Tradewind said, check out google maps , I like the shallow areas directly west of the power station just before you get to the channel . Also Parmelia Bank holds good fish, both areas will have other nice bycatch too. Alwyas have a squid jig out or handy and if you get one, use the fresh tenticles straight away. (fresh bait is best )

Almost forgot, what Grant
Almost forgot, what Grant said about squid in these areas
Get a Yamashita, Yozuri or other quality squid jig about 2.5 size in your colour pref (Mine's pink)
While you're drifting cast it 10m or so out the back. The squid will hook themselves due to the drift and you can reel them in when you feel like it.
They were so thick one day I couldnt keep the rod out long enough to keep rebaiting for KGs
Great bycatch or as above great fresh bait (Personally I eat the tentacles)

This weekend off mindarie
This weekend off mindarie was interesting in 20m. Was fishing solid Reef for Dhuie's and had 50cm+ KGW taking Squid Baits on 7/0 Hooks, and even hooked two of them on Pirate Jigs. Never seen that before and not one Dhuie for the day!

You can get these jigs that are similar to the lirates but much smaller and apparently the kgw smash them!
