Can't beat those Smith's...

Can't beat those Smith's... unreal. Saving my penny's for one now.

I am pretty sure that young Luke at Campbells has that rod that he used at Exmouth last year for spinning and throwing poppers... Only thing I would suggest is that if you're chasing the big GT's  you're gonna need to go heavier.

Thanks for the advice guys. The deal is done. I had to decide pretty quick because it was going 'cheap'.

Mate has that exact setup,

Mate has that exact setup, but I would go PE5, that reel is overgunned for PE3. Still way to light for big GTs though, but muct easier to use all day on tuna, queenies, trout and middle size gts. Unless you are gonna live there and target big fellas, something like this is a much better allround rod than a biggun. I would not touch a Seed either, if in doubt go ask the boys at Campbells why not. Slatigas are good rods, but the smiths are probably 5 years newer technology and about the same price,.

Nice combo for medioum

Nice combo for medioum popping, agree with Simon C, the Saltiga rods just don't compare to the Smiths.

Was playing around with that

Was playing around with that exact rod on friday, but figured my credit card was sweating enough as it is and couldnt justify it on a rod I would probably only use up north. Awesome rod though.

The big one PE3 is 50lb (or 48lb), so you can put a bit of hurt into it, but whether its enough depends on how big the fish are. If you're lucky enough to find fish like Jay and Brad get into (which on their part, probably isnt luck), say goodbye to your popper.

Where did you get the rod and reel? Just wondering if you picked it up or got it sent.
