james service reef

Hey guys,

Over the aussie day break i have four days off and am heading to mandurah with my 475 coastrunner.. Am hoping to get out into the deeper stuff looking for and good ground. My question is what can i expect to catch on the James Service Reef. I know its not far out but looks a good spot in close. Any tips or knowledge would be great.

Cheers rossco

If u love catching wrasse then James service is your place to go.

Been out there a number Of times and only ever pulled one small dhu off there which was pretty much a fluke.

Its worth a look but you will need to be very patient to have even average results.

Night Fishing is the answer for Mandurah

Mon, 2012-01-23 10:45

Fishing the inshore reefs around the Mandurah area during the day can be very frustrating.  You will be HaWrassed.

We have found that when the weather permits, you head out around 6:30pm, find a good spot ON a nice piece of reef, drop the anchor and get a bit of burley going.

Even a group of cray puts that have a visible slick around them is a good place to anchor up.  Don't get too close or the lines will cost you fish.

Once the sun has gone down, the wrasse go with it and the big boys come out to play.  Pink Snapper and Dhufish actively hunt at night.  We always get good dhuis and snapper that way... with the odd UnStoppable thrown in to keep you guessing.

WARNING:  Fishing at night is no joke so make sure you have prepared properly.  Most reefs around Mandurah are littered with cray pots this time of year so be careful and take it slow.
