I'll name the elephant in the room - Cranka Crab

Here we go again on a subject that has been raised a few times in the past and all ways there have been a number of predictions made about when they will hit the shelfs.
What am I talking about, why Cranka Crabs of course.
That great mythical lure that has had more false starts than you can poke a stick at.
For a lure that had all the bands playing and the girls dancing it has been shown to be one hell of a great marketing bullshit fest IMO. This lure won a competition at a fishing show over a year ago and the company has not put a single Cranka Crab on a tackle shop shelf yet !
One can be glad that it is a private company because if it was a public listed affair I'm sure the ACCC would be having a strong look at it.
What a bloody disgraceful state of affairs this is/has been.
Would anyone like to post the latest excuse for this company not having Cranka Crabs on the shelf of tackle shops.

Sat, 2013-12-07 20:59

I've been thinkin the same thing and checking the website every cuppla days, piss poor if they've done all the work and prototypes. Tried to get a crab harddbody from the u.s and got shafted. Back to trawling the beaches and using live crabs.

Cranka Crabs

Sat, 2013-12-07 23:39

On Dec 1st I received the following email reply from Steve Steer , the managing director of Cranka

Quote

"Sorry for the delay but we have had a last minute production issue that has required some extra work to resolve.

I leave for our OS manufacturer today and I will be returning around mid December with stocks.

We expect that all going well we will have stocks to stores before Christmas.

Thanks for your interest and patience and we are sorry for any inconvenience caused."

End Quote

Lets hope that Santa arrives in time, but maybe he meant Christmas 2014 ? Let's see.

 Every time I've spoke to

Sat, 2013-12-28 19:52

Every time I've spoke to them since AFTA they've said a few weeks, up to a month. Given up asking, no point, get the same answer every time with no result. Wouldn't hold your breath.

Cranka crabs

Mon, 2014-01-13 15:07

We spoke to Steve (Cranka owner) today and the latest info is;

Cranka crabs turned up at Cranka Head Office (East Coast) on Friday. They're going through the stock this week and sorting out all orders. Our order is in the system and ETA would be approximately 2 weeks (maybe earlier)

Correct  BJ, they should arive tomorrow morning. It has been a long wait for all us retailers but well worth it indeed. First shipment will go out quick (plenty of pre-orders) so we have already placed a second order.

Let's hope people actually get a few fish on these things to make the wait worthwhile!

When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:

n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or

n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

I'm gonna try em on

Wed, 2014-02-19 09:34

I'm gonna try em on bluebone.

When I am squidding around Dampier, often see bluebone cruising the shallows.

Will have a rod rigged and ready to go.

How heavy are the crabs?  Will I be able to cast them with 30lb braid?

Cranka Crab

pale ale, the standard ones are 3.9g and the heavier weighted version is 5.9g (2g extra)

"Will I be able to cast them with 30lb braid?"

The heavier weighted version ie 5.9g is ideal for flats/landbase/casting distance etc

" bluebone cruising the shallows."

The decoy trebles may not withstand the bluebone bite, Cranka will release (at a later date) a bigger version for permit/bluebone/jacks etc

Beau, thats correct they are in Australia already but they need to be packaged then sent out. We have placed that order for the heavier ones so when Cranka get around to packaging them we will receive the heavier versions.

I'll mention it again...

Fri, 2014-02-21 17:58

....how will they withstand blowies/wrasse? Twenty odd bucks is a lot to spend on something that could get shredded first cast...

The legs are quite resilient and the foam claws do get chewed (main target) but with hooks in the claws you keep on catching.

The replacement " leg pack " and " claw pack " have been ordered, Cranks are awaiting their stocks.
