how much fuel would be needed? (guesswork)
Heading to jurien late sept- after reading a few reports on here - most of the action is in the 50's- ive had pretty good luck in the 20-30's but keen on catching some of the beautys ive seen posted (in particular fisho-ron's mullas and dhuies! ) have 16 ft ali, 2004 40hp mariner (3cyl) running rather well. got 2 22l tanks onboard (45l) and another small 12l in the shed which ill grab a mariner fitting for taking me to 57L .
is that reasonable to get out the 16nm to the 50s, dick around a bit then get home? im not sure of the economy but i was out the other day to ocean side of ffb, dicked around changed spots a few time, sounded around abit, fished round carnac for a bit and didnt need to change tanks until i got near harding rock inside GI id estimate i did around 25 NM before changing- does that sound right?
for a total of 57 l i should get around 70-80 NM depending on weather?
any comments appreciated- and if anyone has hints on what to look for in the 50s... please send them in ;)

When I had my 4.2 m tinnie I found the three factors affecting fuel consumption where weight, speed and conditions! I have 5m plate Ali with a 4 stroke 75 hp and used 17 litres on Saturday going 12 nautical miles off two rocks, not too much weight and good conditions but I think the 4 strokes are more economical. Try googling the motor brand and hp? There may be reviews indicating fuel economies and expected hours per litre.

yer will be heading out with my mate in another boat
im guessing i will just buy another 22l tank.. found some formula saying @ WOT expect to burn 4 gallon an hour, 22.7l = 5.99 gallons. so i should have 1 1/2 hrs at WOT - roughly. i dont really think ill have it at WOT probably sit comfortably at 15-19 knts at around 3/4 throttle so i guess around 30 km hr - i want to be around 30 km out (16 nm) ..
1 tank to get there, 1 tank to get back and one tank to dick around with.. might just get another 22l tank..
cheers for your input randall.

I have a Honda that just runs beautifully at 4000 rpm, pushes the boat along at about 16-17 kts depending on weight. Online reviews reccommend that as optimal performance for revs / speed / economy. Perhaps you can find a similar review for yours?

hull weighs next to nothing
its an older hull, around 2mm thick.. i keep looking at my route for saturday ( estimated because i didnt log it) and i travelled at least 22NM before changing tank. the engine just had a full service, new fuel filter, impeller lube, leg oil. etc.. but that was on a calm flat day. im guessing take a 1/4 of that off for weather.. leave me to assume ill get 15-17 NM off a tank.. ill pack 3 22L and then the 12l as a spare..
but ill take it out soon and log how far it goes on a full tank..
cheers

getting the bottom line final answer from a bunch of blokes that use false names and put smiley faces at the end of paragraphs is not the best place in the world to get the information you seek.
