How to catch blue mackerel around Perth?

 Hi all,

I'm new to this forum, thanks for the add.

I'm a mad keen spearo, but I don't know much about line fishing tbh.

Now, I bring dhuie and coral trout home regularly but my wife's favorite fish to eat is actually slimy/blue mackerel, which is a fish that we can't really target while diving lol!

So I'm after any info that could help me get some of these: gear, tackle and all, but mostly when and where?!

I'm based in Perth and have a boat that can go offshore :)

I'm not after peoples' specific spot of course, but general area, depth and ground...

All advice will be much appreciated!

Cheers,

Sky

Not from Perth but I'm guessing try anywhere, chuck out a bit of pollard or burly, use small unweighted hook and should score a few in between the hezzas. If no luck head to the bait shop

ive never  actually caught one. only ever seen them for bait.

have picked up some scalies occasionaly, or striped mack, but never a blue mack.

apparently can get of north/south mole, but i think is a bigger fishery in SA and eastern states.

Came across a few schools last summer while drifting for whiting off Scarborough. I find that if there are yellow tails/scads around normally the slimeys are too. They are a great fresh cut bait for pinks too. Find one or two on the drift then anchor and burley back to them

Used to catch them all the time down rocko way when i was a kid, not sure if there, or like bonito and not as common these days or if they are still there? Every year we see huge schools of big ones at Lancelin June maily around the 20m they are thick as heaps of big schools. Heaps of spansh mackerel follow too. Rest of the year mainly small ones not realy worth chasing.
