hillarys tomorrow
Submitted by eddie on Wed, 2008-06-11 10:44
I'm thinking of heading to the marina tomorrow morning early and putting in a couple of hours.
I'll be taking my ultralight rod to catch some bait and my heavier rod to set out for something bigger...fingers crossed!
I'm thinking of trying the south wall, as I've never fished it and have not caught much lately on the north wall.
Any spots or tips for the south wall that anyone is willing to share? What's the latest on what's catching there? You can pm me if you want.
Cheers!

Hi Eddie
If you are willing to get up before dawn go to the north wall and go right out near the lighthouse. When you get to the point, climb down the rocks to a spot facing north. Cast your big rod out into the channel where the boats come out and cast your smaller rod out straight in front of you. I guarantee you will catch something - probably skippy mainly, but there are definately some bigger fish swimming in that channel.
If you want to try the south wall, either go down to the corner out the back of Aqwa or head north and fish betwen the reef and the wall.
You are more likely to catch tailor near Aqwa. Big skippy, squid, herring etc, are usually in the reef area.

thx for the tip Colin!
I fished the lighthouse two weeks ago but it was around dawn....not pre-dawn. Tomorrow I'm aiming to get out there around 5 or 5:30
do you reckon the south wall reefs will be better chance for a pinkie??? I plan to run a ganged squid or mulie on the big rod, with fairly light weight. I'll berlie up as well, so hope to get into something good.
I'll keep you posted.

I reckon you would be a chance at either spot eddie
The one advantage you would have on the south wall is that you won't have the blowies attacking your bait after the sun comes fully up. I would also follows Spess' tip and try and catch some rock crabs and throw one of those out there.
