GPS/ fishfinder which one ?

I am in the market for a new sounder/GPS unit and was hoping for some feedback on preferences. At present 2 local blokes have suggested Lowrance HDS 5 or 7 gen 2, the hummingbird ci hd di comes highly recommended on one forum i read. I am sure there are plenty of options but for ease of use, reliability and after sales service, what would be the right choice ?

as a combo mate i would go the hds8, the 5 and 7 are just to small to run in split screen, the lowrance is a exellent gps and a good sounder as well.

as seperate units, this opens a world of options!!

I've just bought the HDS9

I've just bought the HDS9 gen2 mate. But yet to install. Having an older model Lowrance GPS they are user very  friendly and from what I've seen and heard the newer models are just the same.

have the HDS8 but I think now I want a stand alone GPS- split screen is not that good imo. The Lowrance gear is good and easy to use though.

Combo or not

Thanks for the responses lads as i am a novice when it comes to technology. I do not have the room ( windscreen, dash etc ) to have 2 screens. I mostly fish creeks but when weather permits will go outside and have a look. Basically my boat isn't suited to handle crap conditions but would like to add a few options when and if possible, thanks for your feedback.
