Got spiked?

Hey guys first post, long time reader.

About a 2 weeks ago i was de-hooking a slippery trumpeter when i felt one of its dorsal fin spikes go into and snap off in my little finger. getting splinters all the time at work i didnt think any thing of it and was kinda hoping in would just come out by its self like timber does. But 2 weeks later its still in there and startn to hurt a bit.

I guess i want to know if this has happend to anyone else and how bad it got or can get...

Cheers

Anything foreign needs to come out

Welcome mate.

After 2 weeks I'm suprised you are not in agony. See your doctor. I left the barb of a hook in my finger a while back and ended up needing surgery.

I did the same when I was

Fri, 2012-03-23 11:38

I did the same when I was about 12. Left part of a herring spike in my foot and it became a massive issue.

I reckon get a nurse or doc to dig it out for ya. Good luck

Mate had a spango spine snap

Fri, 2012-03-23 11:42

Mate had a spango spine snap off in his toe for over two months. If he hadn't of gone to the docs regarding an infection to another part of his body after a Bali trip (his bellend) it would probably still be there today

I can cut it out for you.

Fri, 2012-03-23 11:45

I can cut it out for you. Bring a carton and a big hammer for anaesthesia.

Once I dropped a herring on my bare foot and it somehow managed to spike me. It was ok for a week, but then it started to burn like hell. I think that there are some bacteria in the slime which caused that. It went away after a week or two in my case. But if you’ve got something left in there, it has to go out.

i was scaling a snapper and

Fri, 2012-03-23 12:02

i was scaling a snapper and spiked my finger. Thought it was just a wound and didnt think much of. Finger used to swell and go down for twelve months before it started to work its way out.

Then used some " Drawing Salve " ointment and it was out within 24 hours.

You'll want that out mate. I

Fri, 2012-03-23 14:56

You'll want that out mate. I got a 10 mm mullet spine in my finger one night netting left it for couple of days but it wouldn't  budge. One bit of advice though save your $ 50 and go directly to emergency. I went via my doc he had a look and told me to go there, cost me $50 for him to tell me that!

Good luck mate, I ll send the bill

i would be getting it out

Fri, 2012-03-23 19:18

i would be getting it out asap. i had a flatty spike in the end of my finger that worked its way a bit deeper.didnt realise it had snapped off. the spike that is , not the finger , lol. the finger got quite infected so i just used paroxide on it and the infection went down, 2 weeks late it came back. by this time the end of my finger had become callosed. in the end i dug the spike out with a sharp pocket knife, bloody painful but a relief in the end.

dont mess around just go and see your doc to pull it out or have a good go at it yourself before it gets further in.

Its out

Thu, 2012-03-29 10:29

Tried magnaplasm over the weekend and it didnt work so on monday went to the ER in armadale. On tuesday they cut it open and couldnt find it after 40mins of searching. 2 ultrasounds, 3 hospital visits (including an over nighter at RPH), surgery and well over 24hours in sitn in waiting rooms later... Its out. Haha it turned out to be a bigger deal than i first thought.

If anyone else gets a spike in em, i know now get it out straight away

Update

Sun, 2012-04-29 00:22

After the operation to get it out took the bandage off and it looked f@cked. Went to the hospital and it was infected as shit.

Eventually it got better and I was told i was lucky i still have my finger but i still dont have full movement (tendon damage) and feeling (nerve damage) in it

Have photos but i dont want to gross people out.

Again... If anyone gets spiked, dont do what i did haha its defiantly somthing to worry about

cobbler spike

Wed, 2012-11-28 01:47

Two years ago i got spiked by a cobbler and it still brings water to my eyes when i recall the experiance. You can forget all the stories about pissing on the wound site to ease the pair it does not work and all you get out of the venture is a very smelly thumb in my case rushed straight to emergency at mandurah and had a couple of pain relieving needles (which i hate) over 6 hours before pain subsided. Hospitial staff told me thay had had 6 people in with cobbler stings over a 2 week period as mentioned above it is pain with a capitial p
