well im looking to start sourcing my own fresh bait as im assuming its going to be more effective than the frozen stuff i buy in shops and was just cruious as to what you all use to gather ir if you use it? i know to catch smaller fish and use them as live bait but am wondering if anyone uses a bait pump or just digs things up or maybe collects mussles and baby crabs just looking to get an insight into what gear im going to need to start getting my own fresh bait and a little bit of how to / where to if anyone doesnt mind sharing

bait!!
Ive been meaning to get a cast net going but I need to get a license 1st. Have kept prawns and sml fish alive for weeks at a time in a fish box with an areator, maybee that might help. have to change the water every 3 or so days. I think they use drag nets in Lesh as well. man you would catch everything in one of them..

Yeh ya need a license
Find a shallow weedy section and you and a mate drag it through the water. You can get different size ones. The mesh has to be a certain size. Dont ask me though. I think 40ft wide net is about standard. If thats too extreme a dip net and a light at night is another way.

The live bait scene around Perth is a little tricky couldn't
No yabbies to pump up from the sand or beach worms to catch from the surf.
Rock crabs are definately worth catching and the little black crabs in the river are great for bream - as are mussels.
Yellow tail are great if you can catch them, as are garfish. The Eshed at Freo is a good spot for them.
School whiting are great bait as well.
I am thinking of dragging out my old mullet catching rig and having a crack at them in one of the northern marinas.

Even in the south you would be a bit restricted couldn't
Your best bet might be to head down to the beach or an estaury and try and catch some small whiting.

No worries couldnt
Ask around and find out if there is any mullet in the local creeks and rivers. If you catch some of them they make awesome bait.
