Floreat Drain report

I popped down to Floreat Drain for an evening fish with Matt (hlokk) yesterday.
The weather was fantastic. Very little wind, the water (apart from a pretty solid shorebreak and the stuff coming out of the drain pipe) was like glass.
Matt picked up a good feed of herring tossing twistys on his bream gear and I managed a nice flathead (a first for my experimental rig) and a few herring myself.
There wasn't any sign at all of tailor being about (not even the little choppers that normally hang around there). That could possibly relate to the runout to the low tide last evening.
All in all it was a good evening. Nice to catch up with Matt, another keen youg fishwrecked angler, and to get my toes wet in the surf (the water was remarkably warm).
All the best, Colin Hay

Sounded nice

The conditions sounded nice Colin, petty there were no tailor about, but nothing wrong with a lizard - they're always nice eating. Always good to meet a fellow FWer. That water sounded good!

It was probably too nice in a way as there was no chop on the water, which as you know, the tailor seem to prefer. The solid shorebreak also made it a little dificult to fish the live herring I had out. But apart from that it was great. And what a fantastic sunset. Just wish I was game enough to take my new camera down there.

Tailor

Nice relaxing evening there Col, shame no Tailor around yet. I've caught some whoppers at that spot, usually in fairly stormy weather tho! Maybe it was too nice. Still, gotta be innit to winnit!

Experimental rig eh?

You're right Albee. It would have been better with an onshore wind. The good thing was there was little or no weed.
With evening low tides set to stay around for awhile I think I might have to drag my butt out of bed and pay a few early morning visits down there.
All the best, Colin Hay
