F**kin Pingers in K-town!!!!

ok...so here's my first real bitch on this site.

I took my missus out towards Stagg for a bit of bottom fishing yesterday. We couldn't see another boat for miles and miles. Caught two awesome Spango's on plastics then this complete asshole (in a trailcraft around 6m) drives up and anchors up right next to us...in the path of our drift!!!! My arms waving and the "bird" didn't seem to worry this wanker. In disgust I took off past him and found some more ground about 1km away....after catching a nice Trout and a Rankin, this dickhead drove over and did the same thing!!!!! We had our feed and decided a swim at Rosemary island would cool us off.

I hope this person is on here...and realises how much this pisses people off. Two spots I had to work for just given away to some idiot who is too stupid to go find their own....

On a positive note...had a great Easter Weekend and hope you all did too.

Its a dog act, as I just posted in your thread Poddy I am losing patience with this issue. I have been getting pinged more and more frequently & in even more brazened fashion that I am going to put the air rifle back in the boat.

I always seem to get two responses if they don't hit the throttle before I confront them

a) "phuck off" etc. this is the sort of prick that deserves the air rifle

b) "yeah I have this mark also" - I sometimes doubt that is the case but if it is too bad we are on it, go fish other marks. Personally if I come up to a mark & see that someone is even close by I don't bother & push on to another.

never pinged anyone but whilst drifting aimlessly for about half an hour west of rosemary once i had someone drive straight up to me and accuse me of stealing his spots. i was there first, so not really sure how that could have happened!!!

he got stuck in to me and basically said that i was right on his spot. i then said "cheers" and marked it in the GPS. got a nice cobia and a small red on our second drift through, first drift gave us nothing which means that if he wasn't a dick i would have just kept going...

Yeh that is very shit form.  This guy must have been struggling pretty bad to tag you to two seperate marks.. get a clue!! If someone is on or close to your mark just move on... thats my theory. The ocean is too big to be fishing on top of one another.

Had this problem alot in k town mate!

We had spots that were "pinged" by the same boat in two differant weekends! Our answere to these cockroaches was a good old fassion spud gun, materials will set you back about $50, but i stand by the method!

They dont seem to hang around long when they start getting shot at with tennis ball sized objects! I highly recommend it mate!

Should have taken some photos Pod. I'm sure that would send a message. Abrohlos Islands!!! Is it that hard to find a spot REALLY!!!!!!!

Unfortunately I think one of the boats is on FW so I will save my cuz the time of day with dealing with this $%#@ and leave it at that. Poddy did mention to take a photo of the boat and post so next time that boat will think twice. They should know who they are. Im sure that will have vivid images of my bloody trout coming overboard and thinking damn we should fish right next to these bastards.

You have a big enough boat to go to the islands, go exploring a little, its an awesome place. If you cant be stuffed, just rock up next to some boats and ask for their GPS. haha Righto thats my gripe. We need to write a 2011 FW book "101 ways to rid of PINGERS!!!"

Yeah fair enough if they are just moving around trying to find a fish but if someones working that area already give it a wide berth and stay out of the way, the fact that he was in a traily means he probably got his arse kicked all the way home anyhow, (duck, dodge, weave as the trailcraft owners throw shit at me) only jokes :-P

Shit for a second i thought what!!!

Wed, 2011-04-27 15:05

Just because I have a trailcraft, and sorry Mick, but if the bastard survived coming off the trailer on dampier Rd with only surface damage i think they are pretty tough. But thats another story. Then realized I was nowhere near Stagg and only squidding near West Lewis. However a boat came up near me as i was anchored up near the little island between West and enderby, and pinged me on a squidding spot in 3m off water, which is no secret spot anyway.

And yes I have ranted and raved about being pinged on West reef by a guy who had the odacity to say, "bloody nice fish on the sounder", after coming within 10m. I know the boat, where he lives etc. Not cool.

but dicko mate, you had already burlied up for me. so the spot was prime haha. just kidding mate, it wasnt me, i was on night shift :( but yeah that really sucks. im all for name and shame. loosing respect is worse than not catching fish imo.
(altho if your in the buisness of pinging you probably arn't getting much respect anyway) wait is fishing the yearly local bait ball or boiler rock classed as pinging?

boiler rock definantly Webby, i couldn't believe on good friday with that awesome weather there was still 5 boats around it fishing, very sad and if they'd gone inot the bay a little and found the bombies in there they may have got a feed of bluebone or trout if luck was on their side.

We get alot of pingers down

Wed, 2011-04-27 15:48

We get alot of pingers down here in Victoria during the snapper season on Port Phillip Bay. It amazes me just how stupid some people can be. Its not strange to find 50 - 60 boat all within casing range of one another. We always get fish in the same gereral area's but out on our own ground... I do love it because none of them ever get fish and there always shocked when you come back to the ramp with an esky full and tell them you were in the same area. You always gotta be careful fighting fish so that no others boats see, otherwise youll end up with an unwanted friend. Pretty ridiculous when you think of it.

Wed, 2011-04-27 21:56

Say you head out 15 mile and when u get to your spot theres another boat in your vicinity but as u get closer, you realise he's 200-300 meters away. Is it kosher to take a wide berth and fish parallel with the other boat 300 meters away?

Had 1 boat follow us out once and when we realised what he was doing, we turned around and headed straight back for him, confused the skipper just sat there watching us while the deckie threw a line over hastily. We then proceeded to go to our original spot while he had to sit there pretending he was at his destination. maybe if he sat back a couple of hundred meters we wouldnt have been so aware but this guy was sitting in our wake.

Pinging in "K" town

Wed, 2011-06-01 10:48

Just to clarify a few points regarding this post: I believe it was me being accused  of pinging out at Stag. On this day I was trolling for Mackies near Roly Rock and after no success and the weather spot on I decided to travel to Stag for some bottom bouncing. I set the route to a waypoint I have on my plotter which is an atol about 5-6 K`s from Stag platform. As I approached the way point it was clear that another boat was almost right on the spot which is fair enough. I then did a bit of sounding around and found a bait ball with some big arches around it. The other boat was 80 - 100 metres away so I anchored at this spot which was up wind of the other boat, which suprises me that I`m accused of being in his drift path. After catching a few good fish the sharks moved in and everything got monstered so naturally I moved. I then moved to another mark I had on the atol and was anchored well clear of the other boat.

Anyway enough said - I didnt travel 14nm looking for another boat to park next to and after travelling that distance wasnt going to just give it a miss and piss off coz another boat was in the area. Finally that buzz past was nothing but immature.

If you say so

Wed, 2011-06-01 16:02

If it was you Gazza, there's two sides to every side of the story.

Firstly, if the weather was spot on...I'm sure that being up-wind (in about 5knots) of my drift would not overcome the .8 to 1kn tide influence. Besides you didn't really watch me to see which way I was drifting...

I don't doubt you had a spot marked...but to park next to me the second time was suss...especially since I didn't have anything marked and I was just sounding around.

(in my opinion) Maybe we have differing perceptions on what "well clear" is.

But...I always give people the benefit of the doubt the first time and I don't own the ocean and I've well and truly gotten over it.

If you are a resident, then you might understand my frustration as there's enough fishing pressure here...especially weekends, and a lot more pinging goes on than one would think.

Hope you didn't join this site just to defend yourself here, there's alot more to enjoy

Usually i'm not too precious

Fri, 2011-07-01 09:14

Usually i'm not too precious about other boats being in the general area, but been noticing it more and more lately, starting to wear a bit thin.

When the weather isn't working for me it's hard to find productive ground, only have a small-ish boat so can't head out wide ( like stag or wandoo ). Gets a bit frustrating when old mate in his 6 meter boat comes and anchors within 100 meters of your mark.

Now I know it frustrates everyone I'll start taking notice of boat names and makes etc and post them up, Name and shame.
