Fishing cray pots

Been a big topic before . Seen some pictures today of just how many hooks and leads accumulated on pro lines within last 2 days. Dangerous thing is no floats tied in knot/no rags rapped around floats .or no fisheries danger tags . Even though you don’t have to do any of this .but gives the guys a warning to be careful . Fair few guys on here have seen what happens when they come flying up friggin dangerous. Only takes 2 secs and may stop a serious injury . Anyway just a reminder

Floats

If you don't have anything to tie on as a flag, then just tie the floats together and if you aren't sure which set then tie the next set as well. Any sign is better than no sign at all.

Its a wonder no decky has been killed with the sinkers flying around the winch, both my boys have had lucky escapes with them but there are others who have ended up in hospital with serious head injuries so please leave a sign if you have lost gear near any pots.

Handful of zip ties and bits of plastic lid....takes up no space

Always in my boat BUT I try and avoid fishing areas with pots present, sure it might be good ground but it's an awfully big ocean out there so no need to put anyone at risk

Trouble is that craypot floats are usually a signpost for a lump or better bottom and attract fishers like flies to rotten meat and guaranteed sooner or later someone is going to snag onto a pot rope.

Amateur pot

Fri, 2020-05-15 19:18

I have had a set of hooks imbedded in my amateur pot ropes, if any one was hoping that it (the pot) was set on good ground they got a shock no crays in pot.
