Boat squidding techniques

 Hi all,

Going to give Mindarie a go on weekend for some squid.  Something I haven't really tried much but know the areas as it is close to the herring spots I fish.

Is it a case of casting and retrieving while the boat is drifting? Or cast and let the jigs drift with the boat?  Thanks in advance.

You double your chances by trailing a jig behind the boat (upwind), whilst casting jigs downwind and working them back to the boat on the drift. Sometimes the rod holder (trailing jig) outfishes the fishermen.

Hi Pirate

Yes, Sunday was my pick of days as my daughter has to work on Saturday and would kill me if I don't take her fishing.

The swell is big at Mindie but hopefully the reef blocks it off.  I'll just tonk around the inside of the Quinns Reef and hopefully the water will be clear.  Come and say hi if you're out there.  I've got a white Barcrusher.

Regards

Chris

Me and the daughter just have a hand line each with the spool at our feet...feed the jigs out trailing the drift.

Bagged out at Obstacle the last two trips in the last week and big bugga's as well, pilchard on a jig under a float did the damage, cast out, sit back and watch the float disappear, easy as, plus you can throw around normal jigs while the other floats around.
