Hah, yeah good point. You'd hate fisheries to see your pics of any protected species though. Pretty sure ignorance doesn't cut it with them as an excuse

Bucko, looks like you nailed it. Did a google search and you are spot on.

Jack mate I like to try all different species first time. If its no good then its ok, it will go back next time.

To be very honest mate the frost fish is full of parasites so dug in the rose garden.

Gem fish was given to couple of mates to try first (haha) and they rated very high.

Cheers

I caught a fish very similar

Mon, 2015-10-12 18:15

I caught a fish very similar to the middle one (gemfish / hairtail) off 1 mile jetty in Carnarvon. Except mine didnt have a forked tail more like an eel or snake tail.

 That probably would've been

That probably would've been a hairtail, common over east in rivers. don't think they're deep water fish

No Worries Pirate mate

Tue, 2015-10-13 10:03

Will let you know if I have a deckie spot next time.

Regarding keeping fish as I said earlier if I catch a weird fish and if I know I am not going to die from eating them I will try it once.

You never know what you are missing.

One of my mates who fishes a lot of Ex -mouth and coral bay use to let all the robinson sea bream go thinking its a shit fish until he decided to keep one.

Also Pirate mate I wouldn't recommend old fashion way in 420 meters. You will know why when you hook a double header of big blue eye or a big bass cod. You will really regret it. hahaha
