Fish finder - advice needed
Submitted by tango and cash on Tue, 2008-09-30 13:01
I am looking at buying a fish finder and have found a couple of Hummingbird Pirahna Max units at a good price.
There are two models available, the 210 and the 215. They are both the same price so I was wondering if anyone owned one and could let me know what they think and what the difference is as I can't see much??

i have a 210 that i use on
i have a 210 that i use on my 12 foot tinnie. it does the job as im not goin to take my boat far off shore i stick to hillary's and cockburn sound mostly. what type of boat do you have? if you have a larger boat and are after bigger and better fish further offshore than like andy said you'll wish you spent more but for close in within 1-2km from the coast on a small boat it does the job. if i had a larger boat and were to go further offshore i'd definently get a better sounder though but because i only take it out on good days when there wind and swell are low it doesnt disrupt the transducer too much.

Little Tinny
is all I have and like you Ash I only take it out on nice flat days from Mindarie. I am only targeting smaller species and really only need it to tell me depth and what the bottoms like. Thanks for the advice

Single beam vs dual beam
IMO, there is no point buying a dual beam (50khz) unit. The 50khz is for deeper water, but it kind of defeats the purpose having a transducer which is only 300w, and not suitable for deep water.
