A few Bunno NSS screenshots

A few pics taken off Bunbury. Simrad NSS7 with Airmar P66 transducer.

1st pic is at the artificial reef about 4 mile offshore. This is one of the reef modules. They are square but there was a decent sea running hence the lumpy appearance. The 200khz shot shows the vertical sides quite well. Plenty of baitfish around.

And this is a little way off that same reef. Caught lots of wrasse here, not much else. Solid arch at 7 metre mark possibly a Sambo passing thru?

One of my favourite features of this unit is the recording function. I record trips to and from waypoints (when I remember). Unforunately the Sonarviewer PC software is dodgy as hell but once you know its quirks I found it useable. Here is a screenshot from trip home. It is highly compressed due to the boats high speed but still shows useful info and I find it worth reviewing once I get home. Here you can see fish marked at over 40km/hr. I note those co-ordinates and next time I am nearby I can take a closer look to see if there is any worthwhile ground.

And this last shot is a school of sand whiting below with baitfish above. Took this pic with phone not long after installing unit coz I couldn't remember which buttons to press for screenshot. Taken on the drift. Whiting were THICK and we caught big fat 10inch+ sandies (often double headers) for almost an hour. Got a good feed and released dozens of smaller fish.

Thank you for the sounder pics

very much appreciate you posting the sounder pics, particularly the one of the whiting with the bait fish above.

When you have verified just what the fish in this case whiting by catching them it really adds value to the screen shot.
And speaking of which I can't quite make out the lat and long on the screen shot at speed LOL.

split screen

Thu, 2016-02-25 08:59

I'm looking at the split screen with one 200kHz and the other 50kHz. Whats the story there?

Cheers, JJ

Really appreciate showing those pics especially the one concerning whiting under the bait fish.

@Rigpig, I often run split

Thu, 2016-02-25 18:34

@Rigpig, I often run split screen coz my p66 tranny @200khz offers better detail but only has an 11 degree beam angle so shows a very small patch of bottom in shallow water. The 50khz is a wide 45 degree beam and  shows 4x more area. At this depth (15M) the cones are 10ft and 40ft respectively.

In the 1st pic the 200khz shows the artificial reefs vertcal sides clearly while the 50khz does not (they are cubes). The 50khz often shows fish that the 200khz misses (being outside its beam) so I like to use both.

We used split screen a lot as pros

Thu, 2016-02-25 19:44

Sometimes for the reasons mentioned above, but we were mostly interested in crayfish habitat rather than fish, and 50/200 gives good cross reference/ confirmation, particularly in deeper water.

My last Simrad was an EQ42, 12" from memory, that sounder, now long obsolete, was bloody brilliant in all depths.

I have the same unit but

I have the same unit but different tranny.  Interested in the split screen with both frequencies.  I have tried this without any success (l'll try again!)  Unless the different tranny brings different capability.

Will pm about recording.  Interested to talk to about that.  Away next week, may be in a week or two.

Good picks.  Love the screen shot capability and scroll back function.

got it sussed

I have the NSS12 Evo2 and it was simple. I pressed the menu button at the top and selected on the right hand side a new screen to add. It then said drag from the menu on the left. I touched on the sounder icon and dragged it to the new screen panel and this bought up the sounder full page. I then dragged it again from the left and it split the screen and sorted it out automatically, 200hz on the left and 50 on the right. Too easy..hopefully your model is the same as mine., if not then I'm not sure.

Pretty sure I just called up

Pretty sure I just called up the split screen option, then selected one side of the split, opened the settings for that screen and selected the 2nd frequency. It may not work with standard lowrance/simrad transducer tho as I have heard it said that although it is a dual freq tranny it actually has only 1 element whereas the P66 has a proper dual element.

 Just revisiting these

 Just revisiting these shots....

Hows the difference in the fish arch on the split screen 200 / 50 !!!  I had to look twice before i realised this is the same water column but what shows as a really strong arch on 50 shows as nothing but a spec on 200 !

 Im guessing this is because

Fri, 2016-03-18 20:35

Im guessing this is because the fish is sitting right on the limit of the 200khz beam and the 50khz beam is wider so its picking up a stronger signal??

I run a nss9 evo2 as a stand alone gps unit and run a furuno as my sounder but im keen to put a tranny on the simrad whats everyone thoughts on a side scan/ down scan tranny i think they are a lss2. Or should i just chuck on a p66

That would be it Roddo, the fish is inside the 50khz 45 degree beam but outside of the 200khz narrow 11 degree beam

 The rrason i revisited tbe

Sat, 2016-03-19 19:05

The rrason i revisited tbe post was i played with mine last night while having a beer or three.  Got it set up so one of my echo options is a split screen showing both frequencies.  Will see how it goes when we are in monkey mia in three weeks.  Though most of our fishing there is less than 15 metres, i know one hole that is 16m...
