fcv585 vs fcv587

Hi all currently considering the upgrade of my sounder currently a Fcv 582l  to either a FCV585 or FCV587. Have read one user considering the option to upgrade his 585 to 587 but rather than go off topic on that thread I thought I would start a new. The best I can see they are pretty much the same with the exception of the bottom descrimination function that until new firmware is written only works with limited number of transducers. If you can save some $ on a 585 would you?

Thanks

Michael

I have the 585 which im happy with and think is ample for rec fishing,

the question is why would you buy the old model for the same price as the new model.

you wouldn`t buy a 2012 commodore when you could have the 2013 for the same price?

Cheers Boomer

Hi MichaelI Like the post

Hi Michael

I Like the post Gain control you have with the 587, this changes the gain on the whole screen rather then just the up and coming. The 587 also has a polarized friendly lens, i currently have a 585 and it drives me nuts not being able to see my screen on different angles.

Cheers

Michael

Good point there Michael re polaroid friendly screen, was not aware 585 did not have that feature. Exactly the kind of info I was chasing. The bottom ID function seemed more of a gymic to my mind

Thanks

Michael

The screen is also bonded on

The screen is also bonded on the 587, it wasn't on the 585 and that can allow some condensation to occur.

Its a slightly higher waterproofing level as well.

   The feature that I like

Thu, 2013-02-14 14:36

The feature that I like most on the FCV585 and the FCV587 is when "Depth" is selected in the Fish Info section you are able to determin if the target is in the 200 kHz cone or if it is outside...but still in the 50 kHZ.

In a nutshell..

Even in the HF screen while in the Depth feature the unit will alternatly fire 50 & 2oo kHz pulses.

If the target is in the 200 kHZ cone the unit will print the actual dpeth on the target image on the screen...and if you have the A scope on and it fires..then the fish is basically diretly under the boat at that instant.

But...

If the A scope fires..and you still have a good looking target but with no Depth numbers printed over the target..then the fish is not under the boat..but outboard..but still in the 50 k cone.

So simple manouver until the depth numbers are on the screen..and thus the target is under the boat.

Now that the 587 has been out

Mon, 2015-08-10 08:32

Now that the 587 has been out for a while I'd like to get some feedback off anyone who upgraded. I am thinking of replacing the sounder on the boat I am buying and deciding whether to get the 587 or buy a 2nd hand 585 and drop some coin on a premo transducer

There are a few second hand

Mon, 2015-08-10 09:16

There are a few second hand 587's kicking around the place. Been around for a while so some guys are upgrading to newer and more powerful systems.

I picked up a 1 year old 587 and 1kw in hull for $1900 delivered a few weeks ago. Transducer was nearly going to cost me that on its own.

Keep an eye on the game fishing fb pages.

585 and 587 identical as far

Mon, 2015-08-10 10:49

585 and 587 identical as far as useable functions go. The additional things the 587 has (bottom discrimination etc) are a waste of time as far as I am concerned and I don't use them.

Only thing the 587 has that is better is the screen does not get water behind it apparently.
