Hi Oceanside the mare nostram shortys, how forgiving are they in regards to breaking are they very strong for there weight or should be treated with kid gloves like alot of high end rods ??
As you've probably guessed me and graphite rods don't get on very well !! Ha

Hey mate,
The shorty's are like any graphite blank you do need to treat them with care. They are a very strong rod with plenty of get up and go. I have previously used mine to tangle with Sambo's upto 30 kg and the rod came out on top. Just with a bit of general care and these rods will last years and years.

I haven't posted on here for a while but thought I would put up a kind word for the store. The guys at Oceanside are the reason people should get behind their local tackle store (it's not really local for me..65km round trip), great service and a friendly word goes a long way.
Over the years I have watched the demise of many suburban tackle stores and noticed the increased dissatisfaction of fisherman who have to deal with the major tackle brands when it comes to warranty issues. I believe it comes down to internet sales killing the "community" aspect of fishing.
In days past (and I like to think I'm not that old) I can remember walking into my local tackle store with the only warranty issue I have ever had and having the rod swapped out by the retailer on the spot and thinking "this is great" rather than the current view of "I wonder if they'll (the manufacturer) honour their warranty?". In the per-internet days local tackle stores "owned" the market, there was a strong sense of community and distributors would listen attentively to the store owner, making sure that all is well to guarantee ongoing custom.
The current state of tackle retail and uncertainty comes down to a lack of "buying power", if the local store buys and sells a higher volume of stock (taking sales volume away from the internet) then the distributor has to listen more attentively to the store owner and generally (not always) this favours the consumer. In the case of Oceanside (and more than likely other tackle stores around Perth), I believe it would benefit their customers.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not an anti-free market campaigner, I do love a bargain and I'm all for sourcing something from overseas or interstate if it's not available locally. However, I refuse to buy internet products (be it national or international) to the detriment of the local industry.
