Yep Telstra , I used virgin and Vodaphone before and neither had a network running up there , I now have a 3g phone with Telstra and 2 weeks ago went all the way to Brookton and never lost signal once .
we had reception down off sth passage and out at the canyons and out to almost 1000mtrs , reasonably clear but drops out as you come into tantas towards the lead markers
Just make sure you get a NextG Telstra sim, not a standard 2g as you'll only get same coverage as 3....Used to manage the Telstra Shops.....
If going prepaid....look at one of the ZTE country phones, not all NextG handsets give you the max coverage...
Ask/look for blue tick on phones, this symbolises max coverage, a couple of ZTE phones allow a extra boosted antenna to just clip on handset to improve coverage...there is also a country phones which is proving to be very reliable...
Yep farmer that owns the farm we fish has a country phone and works all around the property (about 15 km out of brookton) and country reception is good (great actually) , also my phone works at the Derwent even when I'm downstairs on Shikari so I would be probably 2 or 3 feet above sea level , I have the 6120 classic , only problem is the earpiece gets hot and they (Telstra) says it's a known Nokia problem and they won't do anything about it ??? 5 other people with the same phone have the same problem.
I just unlocked my phone the other day from 3, will a telstra next G fit into that phone? should do shouldn't it? unlocking your phone means you can use any network doesn't it?
Telstra's settings will need to be installed, if available, which if they are it will most likely work but won't give you the nextg coverage/speed due to the frequenzy Telstra use, you will only get 2 or 3g, (3g & nextG are different networks, 3G offers metro coverage & download speeds of approx 315kB/s, NextG covers 98% of ossie population with download speeds of up to 14mB/s) network coverage & speed.
If anybody wants a ZTE252 flip phone that is nextG & supports a external aerial, send me a pm
ohk, pretty confused as im not really up with all the mobile lingo!
just need a phone that has Next G capabilities..i have the new nokia 6500 slide, so are u saying carassius that this will not take a next G sim if i dont get the telstra settings installed?
the Nokia 6500 slide is compatible with Telstra's NextG (WCDMA 850MHz). As it is a 3 Mobile phone, it will most likely NOT have the settings installed on the handset neede to allow network access, requiring Telstra to set it up. It takes about 10mins to do in a Telstra Shop, or call 125 111
No worries, if goin to a T-Shop, try to go to a company owned store as opposed to a licensed shop, you will find the team alot more helpful, plus have more access to systems etc
Optus does work up here also but it is only limited to town.
Sam a mate paid $79 for the phone which included $25 credit on a prepaid and it works fine in town. Where you are staying the reception is poor at best. I don't get service with my next G unless i am up on the hill at the lighthouse.
