Exmouth mackies???

Gday, Up in Exmouth at the moment until Wednesday and was wondering if anyone has any idea where the Spaniards are hanging around at the moment? Have put in some serious hours trolling along the back of the reef from northwest reef all the way down to around turquoise Bay Area with not even a single hit on any of the hard bodies, laser pros, samaki pacemakers, nomad Dtx minnows. So just wondering if anyone could point me in a general direction of where they have had any success recently? There's a carton in it for someone if they point me to the goods ;)

Skirts & Gars?
Maybe try some skirts and gars? Maccy Dave does kayak tours and is smacking them most days. He is regularly out from Wobiri and Hunters so assuming around Helby Bank area north to the lighthouse Bay?

They sell Moldcraft trolling heads for gars at Bluewater Tackle. Very easy to rig and dynamite as a rule. They'll show you how to rig them and it only takes a minute.

Thanks for the info lads... I did manage to find em but had to do some k's, unfortunately the sharks are the worst I have ever seen them up here so I have given up on the spots I know where they are as the sharks know they are there too!

Literally just back from
Literally just back from Gnaraloo and we were getting them late arvo on the troll along with Yellowfin. Agree re the sharks we were absolutely hammered to the point of utter frustration. Marks where we'd never seen them before there were just milling around.

Extreme methods maybe?
When I lived up north, if desperate to get one for a feed and the sharks were malingering, I used to resort to a commercial cord line, heavy hooks and pair of gloves. The approach was to troll over the mark and hook up, put a turn of the line around a bollard then gun the boat to about 20 knots. The macks would come up and skip along the surface, so I'd pull them well clear maybe up to 1km, then drag them in by hand with the gloves on. There was a good chance you could get away with a fish. I found that using Smith's jigs held them best, as the two storng hook often connected right at the front of the mouth, which made the macks skip stright and steady.

Ended up finding and donging some Mack's but had to get creative and now have an extremely saw finger from the efforts but it paid off!
