Ill be up that direction early April too, found these guys in a fishing mag, sent em an email inquiring about prices etc a few days ago but havent had a response yet....
If you can get a reply from them it might be a good day, they have a nice looking boat well set up for billfishing.

much of a muchness
if all your goin there for is marlin, then prob hire a charter. prob a bit pricey though, but you'll definately get your fix.
if there's a few of yas, and you've got your skippers ticket, and all the hardware, hire a boat yourself. a couple of things though,
MAKE YOURSELF FAMILIAR WITH THE REEFS, PASSAGES, ETC. they're pretty easy to far kup if you're not on the ball.
most of the hire boats have a limit on how far you can take them offshore. i think its only a few nautical miles, plus the murion islands. luckily though, the reef drops off to 100m within the limit. everyone takes them further, but your insurance is void if you do.
also, keep an eye on the weather, cos if it blows up and you cant get over to the west side, you'll be stuck with a boat costing you $200-$300 a day that you cant use.
i just re-read what i wrote, and it looks like i've talked it down, but my opinion is the hire boat, as long as you got a few mates to diverse the cost. at least you can go bottom bashing, mackie trolling, etc as well if you get sick of marlin....
also, go stick ya head into the bluewater tackle shop and speak to the team up there on any info you need. listen to every word they say.

Exmouth info!
Hiring a dedicated Game boat in Exmouth isnt cheap but if your wanting it all laid on and having the best professional game experinece then its worth it. Especially if you divide that up by a few mates etc. Call Dan O'Sullivan (Boat Freespool 2) on #0488 915 367 or (08) 99494467
If your want to do it cheaper or you prefer another option then getting marlin/billfish etc isnt very hard. Having the right game lures & game plan makes all the difference and the guys at Bluewater Exmouth or Exmouth Tackle & Camping are extremely helpful. Hiring an Exmouth boat that time of year maybe hard so i'd get onto it asap!
