Dream fishing trip

OK so put on your thinking hats and come up with your dream fishing trip.  Anywhere, anytime.  You have at your disposal unlimited funds, a time machine (if reqLaughing) and anything else required.

I reckon my ideal trip would be land based game fishing back in the 80's (with today's gear) at Devil's Gorge in Jervis Bay NSW.  Fishing over the summer months for a beakie and the winter months for BIG yellowfin off the stones.  Can't fish off this location any more as it is now a marine parkFrown

There are fancier trips out there but for me this would be the ultimate.  What would be yours?

Rowley Shoals

No question but a close second would be anywhere north of Derby in the Gulf.

I would however like a time machine (tardis) and go back 150 years with current gear and fish our own metro waters - now that would be an eye opener !!

20 years ago I was in PNG for 2 years but had no boat.

I often dream about having my own charter vessel there, but no paying passengers just mates and we have a ball.

Maybe a lotto win will make it come true.

In my humble opinion, when the weather is right u can't beat the Gascoyne Coast, from Shark Bay north to Coral Bay. U name it and it's  there to be caught.

forty years ago when you could free dive just a few metres from shore and get a feed of crays. Great amphitheatre west of the current town where you could camp for a week free from the wind or bloody rangers.

If i had a time machine it would be to go back 50 years from now to see what metro fishing was really like....mind blowing i reckon!

As for the dream fishing trip, Rowley Shoals with a mothership of 70-80ft, a few tenders of 20ft and 4 weeks of fishing & diving and nothing else....aahhhh ok...... alcohol & girls too......LOL!

Cockburn Sound

Would have been one of the best nurserys in Ozz a hundred years ago,had it all!. Would have been pretty lively back then I bet.Look at it now completly wrecked from a causeway, dredging and of course heavy industry. South Beach used to be a squeaky clean white beach, have a look now (grey) completely ruined from dredging. Carnarvon still does it for me though after 25 years!

Mothership

Fri, 2009-07-17 06:06

Starting in Exmouth and working our way round to Darwin. A good flats boat in tow. Fish bluewater up past the montes and round to broome, then creeks, headlands etc round to cassini. A few days of topwater popping for Gt's and Billfish, then end up fishing some of the bigger rivers in the NT during runnoff for big barra. About 3 months should do it.

Failing that I would take a nice mothership parked in the Bottom of exmouth gulf with a very fast gameboat and a creek boat alongside for a month, 3 mates, maybe even let the missus come for a week.

If the time machine was

Fri, 2009-07-17 09:44

If the time machine was available there would be heaps of options: Exmouth, Abrolhos, NT rivers etc but above all of them I'd go back to when Ashmore Reef wasn't a marine park and spend some quality time there with a 6m "game" boat and a good flats boat. The flats and reef edges are awesome and the game fishing surrounding would be mind blowing. Definetly worth checking out on Google Earth.

For my current day dream trip it would probably be a mothership trip to the far corners of Vanuatu.

For a real dream trip, leave Sydney on a big boat for Lord Howe (kingfish), Norfolk (to refuel), Wanganella Banks (striped marlin and deep water bottom fish), Vanuatu (blue marlin and dogtooth), New Cal (bones and GT's) and home to Cairns via Coral Sea reefs (whatever you didn't catch at Vanuatu).

Kenn or Wreck reef aboard a Nomad charter. Sea plane in and a huge variety of fishing to suit whatever takes your fancy. But for now I'll keep on packing my gear because tomorrow morning we head off to Coral Bay for a week then to Exxy for a few days. It'll just have to do. For now.

Start From Geralton!

Sat, 2009-07-18 07:19

With unlimited time and money, I would start from Gero on a mothership, that had 25ft tenders with all the trimmings, jet ski's, smaller dinghy's etc, all the dive gear, spear guns, and different size rods and reels you could name, take of north to Darwin stopping in on all the spots I haven't been yet with include: Abroholos, Quobba, Shark Bay, Karratha/Dampier, Monte Bello's, Mackeral Islands, and onwards to the place I would like to go most the Rowley shoals!  After that try some places around Derby, and the Kimberley, and onwards to the Islands of Darwin like Melville, and Bathurst Island.

A trip like this could take years, thats just how long I would stay at every spot!
