Very very unfair

Sat, 2016-04-16 21:28

$160 dollar fine. Doing trailer maintainance at peron ramp. Finished repairs to trailer . Gave way to other boat uses coming in from fishing ( never 50 meters away from causeway). No bait fishing gear ( life jackets and out of date flares on board) . Doing right thing just in case trailer wrong. Didn't want to hold incoming traffic up. Dot always done righty by me in past a little unfair in this situation.  What's world coming to. As I said before great guys looking after people ( making sure everyone is safe). Got me

It was tongue in cheek

But Im totally confused, you posted

But now say you didnt get done, and werent out?

Doesnt matter though, as I said it was tongue in cheek and I must have misunderstood your writing style.

Simple, boat going in the water requires all the safety gear. DOP would have heard it all beforehand, it is clear in the regs and not that hard to comply. Sometimes we all learn the hard way, but that's the way this country is going, lose of common sense, not just with this, diving for crays, even the way we work..... USA just saying.

Yer John, stringing what you say, write can have 5 meanings but I think most sometimes understand what you mean I think

 Yea that's true.

But was the fine for just having "out of date" flares on board ?

I have out of date flares on board as well as in date ones. So does this mean I can get a fine for carrying the out of date ones or not ?

Of coarse  not . you  can carry anything that's  legal  on your boat as long as ypu carry all the nessesary safety gear if venturing out of marina.

My fine was for failing to equip  vessel with relevant flares.

Send in an appeal letter with all your receipts for the parts and see hwo you go. Got nothing to lose except 30 mins putting the letter/email together.

I've got myself out of numerous parking and a couple of train fines by writing a letter. It usually works to your advantage if you come out off the bat and admit you were in the wrong and then explain the situation.

The Point is he left the marina, and doing so he entered unprotected waters without the required gear. Fair? Harsh? You can argue that all day, but he did breach the laws.

Yeah I have a grab bag with all the safety gear, flares,EPIRB etc. Scumbags are everywhere these days. Gotta agree a bit hard being pinged like that and you would think some discretion forthcoming, but it's zero tollerance like this that gets the message out I guess.

grab bag

Mon, 2016-04-18 12:51

yellow waterproof grab bag, with all safety (hand-held VHF, flares, EPIRB), plus the sounder/plotter, torch, green laser pointer, etc, all live in there as well. that way, as you never forget your plotter/sounder, you never forget your safety gear as well.

plus, if you go over, everything is in a quickly accessible bag.

also, its worth noting a hand-held VHF, which I have as well as my fixed VHF.
