Dirk Hartog in April/May

 Hi All

Doing a trip for 12 days to DHI in April May and staying at Urchin Point. Anyone one been to shack lately ?

We have all gear, been and camped on Whitnell before but not sure about what we need to bring to the shack to make sure we are based ok. Have plenty of Engels and also bringing a 3KVA honda gennie, so more about what we need to bring table , chairs, lights ( they used to be able to hook gennie to a light system that was there) etc.

Trying to not bring items we wont need if its up there already. Also has anyone been on the new barge as yet ?

Last time we had to wait on beach for better weather to get across and it was only set times Kierien could bring you back.So also looking for info on if we need to stay night at steep pt or we can get barged across when we arrive in arvo/same on return do we need to sleep at DHI beach going back pending weather to get across.

Cheers

hey mate good time of year to go as its not hot and you wont need to load up on too much water (weight)

there is a rain water tank on the shack which is mostly pretty full so we use that for dishes washing ect ect and bring water for drinking

there is a hook up for the genie runs the whole shack lights and gpo's

we run a led rope light around the front of the shack for a bit more light

there is also plenty of wood around to make a fire

bring chairs and lights we have donated a couple of good long tables up there and they have lasted the few times we have been up since

bring a gas bbq and a strong tent/swag otherwise you will not have a good sleep the wind can be relentless the rest you seem to have covered

barge can be hit and miss we have been there and got on as soon as we arrived. other times we have waited up to 3 hours
some guys have had to camp on the beach for up to a couple of days. so make sure you have some food and camping gear easily located

its a long slog to urchin point if you get on the barge at lunch you will be setting up camp by 4pm if every thing runs smoothly
