Digging for worms

Yesterday i went digging in the eustary for worms after i saw an old fella doing it and using the worms to catch whiting after whiting every cast. I only manged to get a couple of half worms and thousands of empty cocoons does anyone know what im doing wrong or if a bait pump will work better?

Be careful

Be careful mate, I don't know if things have changed but years ago you could only worm in certain places.

Try different depths and dig in the black stuff.

there is no problems digging for worms, if your 5 meters or more from the shoreline - Unless your in an area that is sign posted stating you cant, there are a few of them around.

instead of using a shovel if that is what you are using try a garden fork. less likely to cut the worms in half

You stand in the shallows, fork it onto the crate using it for a sorting table, dirt falls through worms on top.

And dig in a little little deeper water - empty tubes are a sign of pollution or very low tides and we have had a few of those recently
