Deadly mosquito-borne disease of the North West

Heading to exxy then karratha and back for a couple weeks mid june.
Any of you guys know if this all is a media hype story or is it something to really worry about.
If so whats the best way to avoid it.

To protect against malaria we were given clothes treated with a chemical that mozzies hate. Bisley make a full range even including socks.

Mossies are bad at the moment after the rain we had 2 weeks ago, not sure about the disease, but they're bloody annoying enough as is!

An old mate of mine died here a few weeks back and it was diagnosed as encephalitis, caused by a mozzie bite, They initially though he'd had a stroke but when the blood tests came back it was too late and all they could do was sit back and hope for a miracle that didn't come.
He was the old chap who had been in some pics I submitted holding up pinkies from over the islands or the Lady Joyce wreck

From what I have
read a Policeman also infected. Who knows what these illegal boat people are bringing with them, hate to think, killer mozzies.
