Have a look in the search function. There has been a few lengthy discussions about this topic. Plenty of good info. Sunbeam food saver comes up a lot

Sunbeam

Have a sunbeam 6000 which has been great. You can't buy the seals for that model anymore which you will need to replace at some stage.  Whichever one you get make sure replacment seals are available.

Rippa gauges

Spent years mucking around with sunbeams, primus, cheap and nasty ebay models.

Then spent A few extra $$ on one from rippa gauges. Should have done it years ago.

ripper gauges

mate i have one from from rippa gauges.

and its a great unit.

few months back i cryovaced about 60kg of meat, so about 50 bags done in about hour and a half. and machine didnt even break a sweat. barely got warm.

had sunbeam before and it was good and served me well. but the guy from ripper gauges works with me and ask if i wanted to test it out last year when i was making dry sausages at home so he got me one to try it.

took it home did about 40 bags that day. next day at work i just gave him the money for it.

it has few setting on it for differet type of food so you can adjust it to not vacuum hard your soft foods. it also has pulse mode. which is like manual mode so you can stop vacuuming when you want and seal it.

I had a sunbeam for about 6 years it was pretty good for doing a few bags at a time but overheated pretty quickly (10)

currently have a primus, not 100% convinced on it, definitely doesn't like the micro channel bags which is ok just stick with the foodsaver or ebay bags which are cheaper anyway. Sometimes it wont suck all the air out of a bag properly (sometimes I wonder if this is due to the quality of the elcheapo ebay bags I use) was relatively cheap under $200.

used the pacfood V305 as mentioned above on a recent trip away and wasn't really too impressed compared to the price of the unit as it still overheats (ambient was 35). Certainly a more robust machine and a physically large machine it weighs a bit and you need a bit of room to use it on those remote fishing trips, this could be a factor for some. At the time it was going side by side with my primus and it was about 20% better but at more than double the price

Have used the next model up from this which is a commercial unit and it was flawless but comes with a hefty price compared to the above. Just note we were using this one on a 4KVa generator and it was really giving the genny a kick not sure on the specs but it was pulling some current

If I had to buy one tomorrow I'm would be investigating what else was out there compared to these 3 but the V305 looks to be the better performer if you have room for it

Had sumbeam, but used to overheat after a few bags, now have a ORVED eco vacuum, have packed full bodies of beef without a problem, had it for 6 years now & still going.

but if you dont want the expence, then some people use zip bags, pack your meat in the bag, then submerge in water in the wash trough, that forces the air out then zip is shut, dont let any water get into the bag. good luck cheers Don.

I have 2 sealers

Wed, 2020-06-10 12:43

Originally I had a Sunbeam model.  I used to think it was OK, until I experienced better....I was dillusional.  It overheated, but I was able to manage with it.

I then bought an Evapac from Ryan Thipthorpes shop.  It has never let me down.  I haven't experienced any overheating.  This one I use to take away on trips....much smaller.  Way better than the Sunbeam.  My son still has a Sunbeam and wishes he had mine.

I also have a Pacfood VS305.  This unit is awesome.  Really good suction, never overheats, but the best part is the seal width...haven't measured it, but its probably 5mm.  However, this is a big unit, and expensive.  For me it stays home, but it's my go to sealer.  If it broke down, I'd buy another.

 DONT GET THE FUCKED OUT

Fri, 2020-06-12 07:32

DONT GET THE FUCKED OUT NEWER MODEL SUNBEAMS!!

They work fine ( will over heat after a dozen bags ) but the automatic style where when you push the bag in it starts the machine is a total fucking pain in the ass!!

I have two, the older one and the newer one...

Bought the newer one because I thought the older one was fucked but it was the bags...

The bags have one side smooth and one side rough checkering, the bags I had the checkering was slightly too big and the machine wouldnt work ( i blamed the machine and bought the new piece of shit )

Get the bags from Kings camping and no sooner have you pressed buy the courier is knocking on the door...

From reading the posts above and also someone that processes sides of beef every year in bulk I will be buying a Ripper Gauges Machine!!
