War Zone

Sun, 2021-11-28 08:50

Checked my pots yesterday morning and it looked like a war zone, must have been 20+ boats , all with divers flags up stretched along the section of reef where ours were.

Got bugger all from our so picked up 2 and headed about 2nm north and the other 2 out onto a bit of a lump further out in 14 metres but will have to move them by tomorrow as a dredge is due to start cleaning up the shipping channel on Monday  and wer are not too far from where they drop the spoil .

Mates who dives got their 16 in 11 minutes 3 weeks back at a spot off Mininimup went back there on Friday, legs and feelers everywhere and crays as nervous as buggery from the amount of attention they have been getting in the last fortnight

Baiting half size pots

Tue, 2021-11-30 19:51

How many tuna heads do I need to put in the bait box of a half size pot and how often does the bait need change? Will appreciate some advise I'm a bit new at this. Cheers in advance.

Little Johnny Pig fat

Wed, 2021-12-01 12:06

I am not sure that putting Pig fat into the pots is a great idea,as we know Pigs are said to resemble humans tha is why the organs can be used in some proccedurse It seems we have enough sharks enterested in the pots with out the added smell i am not critisizing you Johnny but just asking the question.

Sat, 2021-12-04 17:27

Has not done small bite ( it only is small) they inject fluid into cray. Slowly kills cray and makes flesh turn to almost liquid. So they can suck flesh out. I bought one home last year after occo attack 2 hours later cray went funny colour . Flesh turned to soup

Winter did seem to last alot longer this year with a cooler and nastier spring than usual blowvember hit late and is still in full swing could it be that the crays are just confused? Hence the trickle feed?

yeah im hoping its a late start, but i have a feeling this is the actual run, and its just not going to be as good as the last few years.

we got 11 yesterday form 4 pots.

8 in 1 pot. 2 empty and 4 in the last. quite patchy. hillarys pot with 8 wa sinside 3 mile in 10m, 2 empty pots were 50m away form the one with 8.

pot with 4 was past 3 mile in about 15m.

certainly no ripper days yet...

Last Saturday morning heading

Thu, 2021-12-09 12:15

Last Saturday morning heading to my pots, I check these first then usually go for a dive myself as needed... I crossed a very busy common patch which is loaded with Pots...I dived this spot a month back for an easy bag out before the potters moved in. Now the ramps were full its 7am and two boats have separated them selves nicely with there dive flags up basically blocking the patch out. Free ocean bla bla but myself knowing that time of the morning guys are coming to check and rebait there pots this had me scratching my head.

Yes most of my spots are loaded with Pots atm, yes I will dive these but will not sit in the middle of these first thing in the morning knowing pots will be holding crays and blokes want to access them with no worries.

As for divers taking your bait...funny shit!!

I think LJ was implying that there had been crays in the pot as the bait was gone, not that divers took it!

We got another 7 from 6 pots of OR yesterday arvo. One pot cuaght 5 of the 7 yet pots 20m each side had donuts or singles. Still can't figure out this season.

donuts first try

Thu, 2021-12-09 14:02

Pulled my two pots for the first time this mornng NW of Carnac in 12m. PLenty of pots along the reef edge in the general vivinity, but I didn't see any crays coming up on the two boats hauling within sight.  For me no luck at all, with bait still there after a 4 day soak. Using tailor heads and frames, same as last year. Added a bit if extra bait and sent them back over, one in the same spot one a few 100m away. Same spots with same bait produced well the last two seasons. Fingers crossed for next pull in a few days.
