Cray pods left in the sea. lines snapped off, from last seasons cray season?

What is the rule?  we were diving on Saterday and found 2 cray pods that have been left to the ellements, all indications are that the rope has been snagged and broken off! Can I load this cray pod, or do I leave it be? It is obvious that these two pods which we found have been in the water from the previous cray season.

Pods are still very usable but need a bit of a clean.

if you can make it out the RIGHT thing to do would be to return it to its owner. whether you choose to do the right thing is up to you.

i had one of mine stolen last year out from hillarys, which pissed me off no end, now i gotta buy another one for this season (thanks oceanside :P)

Thu, 2009-11-12 15:45

Yeah I'm missing a few from last season, But I think mine were pulled and then dumped miles away,I found one half way up GI { dropped them closer to the southern end} and yes they had big weights in them so I dont think they drifted { not that far anyway}...

Cheers ....

The only problem is if you have pulled your pots allready and you pull a couple of runaways the fisheries can do you for pulling to many pots whether your doing the right thing by bringing them in to return them or just removing them from the water,I have seen dozens of pots lying on the bottom some are brand new just had the floats cut of .they are all still siting on the bottom waiting to be swollowed by the elements.

I found one today, but it was way too grubby to bring onto Alfred's boat so it stayed down there.

Oh this one was much much

Oh this one was much much more weedy, but it was only a rec pot.

I saw that great reef finger down there with meters upon meters of pot rope looped around it like spanish moss.
