coral jizz

Any exie locals know what the fishings like when a mummy coral and a daddy coral put on the barry white cd and lay down by the fire?

does the fishing shut down or fire up?

A spectacular event is about to occur off the WA coastline, but you'll have to be in the right place at the right time to see it happen.

The annual mass spawning of corals is about to occur along the Dampier Archipelago, Ningaloo Marine Park and Abrolhos Islands for just four days from March 27.

Department of Environment and Conservation marine science program leader Chris Simpson said the event occurs over the period of the lowest tidal range, seven to 10 nights after the full moon.

"This fascinating event in the coral reproductive cycle looks something like a pink underwater snow storm, and it attracts many divers and photographers each year," Dr Simpson said

coral

only time i used to like the fishing up north after the coral did its thing was for barra.... the milkfish and diamond scale mullet used to love the stuff and in certain spots we used to fish the big mumma barra used to smash them inturn! quiet a sight to watch a 40-50lb barra smash a 4kg milky off the top lol!

we recently had alot of coral spawn over at the abrolhos and it coincided with the warm water we have all had. i personally didnt see the fish kills but a bloke from work who went over there for a few days during the spawning/high temps said everything was dead as... hardly a fish seen - fisheries checked them over and got talking , they had been scuba diving checking a few sites and had seen bulk baldchin & dhuies dead on the ocean floor

again i didnt see this its all been passed on.... my 2 previous dives at the islands have been successful but far out we had to work to get our fish

Usuaully, not so good for the surface fish, but bottomies are still fine.  Then again, its been a wierd season so I would say that its relatively unpredictable.

Got to agree about the unpredictable year with you Adam. Had two regular customers in yesterday. One was stuck into the Salmon and the other Marlin just off shore. All catching Mackeral. Occy, Cuttlefish and Squid in the same spot in Freshwater Bay. I caught a Salmon in the Swan. Keeps it fun. I'm just happy for the mass of first for people this year. First metro Marlin, first metro mack etc etc. It must have given a good percentage of Demersals a break this summer.

p.s I persevered in Exmouth during spawning without too much luck but have done alright off Rotto on Tuna in the thick off it.
