Caught at Dunsborough

Hi

I'm not much of a fisherman and can't seem to find what the name of this fish is. Caught around dusk at Dunsborough off the beach (put back in after the photo) and just wondered if anyone could help with ID.

thanks

Steve

They can grow a fair bit bigger than the one you have pictured. My experience is that Mulloway will be around if they are. They make a great live bait.

bigger

I caught one on the weekend that I thought was a small mulloway when I dragged it up the beach, it would have been just under a kilo (real fat) and because it was from the surf the colours werent as dark so it took a good look to identify it.  They have pretty tough skin to get the hook through

Yeah, I got a big one in

Yeah, I got a big one in dunsborough a few years back. In hindsight, it was probably a bit too big a live bait. It was hard to get the hook thru at the time, but later when I released it, it swam off fine. They're damn tough I must say!

Some say they are good for you

They seem to have a bit of iodine in them and some say that they are a good health food. Not sure I would eat them though.
