Hi All,
planning to launch the boat from Canal Rocks on Saturday for a fish. No idea where to go from there. Any general direction advise greatly appreciated.
Cheers

Ramp
Take care on the ramp if any sort of swell is running, its the sort of place where its very easy to come undone.
The bay from the northern point of Canal [Sam Wingee rocks] through to Cape Clarault is mostly full of kelp and heavy sea weed, I''ve never done any good it there but once outside and due west of Clarault there is some good small lumps if you are willing to sound around.
Approx 4nm due west of the cape there is a edge that runs north / south , if you find it , just take small drifts across it then move 50 or so metres along then drift again.
NW of Canal about 2nm there is a pinnacle that comes up 30 feet or so, have got the marks for it somewhere if I can find my books, and think its marked on the charts. The small boat brigade of locals give it a bit of a flogging but still produces queenies, pinks , the odd dhuey and sambos. If you see someone anchored there, they will be on it.
Hope it gives you something to start on without going into fine detail

Yep, as Carnarvonite has
Yep, as Carnarvonite has said. Swell can come from 3 different directions here and getting out is much easier than coming in. Make sure you have at least 2 people with you who can hold the boat while you park. The rocks sticking out across from the canals, I think they are called the indicators, it gets hammered, but you can get some good fish there. Straight out in front of the canals you are in 30 meters straight away and some good ground is all over the place out here. Dragging a lure along the front of the canals can be fruitful also, especially if the YTK's are in residence.
cheers

Thx guys
Will only have wife and small kids with me so not sure if it is such a good spot to launch from now. Maybe next time when I have a bit more manpower with me. Cheers anyway.

Dunsborough
Give old Dunsborough or Quindalup ramps a shot, old Dunsy doesnt have a jetty but is sheltered from the wind.
If the weather is good head round the cape towards Sugarloaf, there is some good ground in close just to the south of the rock that produces and out the back of the Coral lumps will produce heaps of queenies for the next couple of weeks.

Canal Rocks
Spoke to Damo at Dunsborough Outdoor Sportz. He sold me some bait and a lure and a pump for the sea biscuit. Gave some ideas where to try and reckoned Canal Rocks should be ok.
launched there without too much drama. Wife and 6 yr old both caught dhuies, me some nive sambos, huge skippy etc.
was a great morning and all have big smiles.
thanks all for your help and advice and special thanks to Damo!
cheers,
