Braid to fluoro leader

hi everyone, just worked out the best knot ever, the Albright knot. I think it's as good as the FG knot, landed a 50cm flatty today with 4lb braid and 4lb fluoro leader with the Albright knot. It's also very easy, not time consuming at all!

Yes the Albright is easy. I use to do Bimini to improved Albright which is very good. I now use the GT to Bimini.

Albright OK at a pinch and what I use to tie a quick leader on when fish are biting.

GT or better still FG better through the guides particularly on heavier line. FG can be difficult on some flouro as it can be hard, need more crosses of the line.

Yeah I use the Bimini and Albright but think I need to find another one that has a smaller size than the Albright. Will check out the GT knot first as suggested Sea-kem.By the way young Lachie, did u use the improved Albright? It wraps up and then back down again. Its supposed to be a little better.

FG knot is the best

Sun, 2015-05-03 21:23

I use the FG which is a ripper of a knot. Thinnest of them all as well as the strongest how can you go wrong.

Albright

is ok but no where near the knot strength of The other suggested knots. I've never broken a Bimini/GT connection.

My personal experience agrees with the knot reviews I've read through various forums/fishing mags etc. the common order is.

Albright-Bimini/GT-FG-PR

But I have no idea why you would bother buying a PR bobbin when FG is so easy to tie and strong.

I made my own

Mon, 2015-05-04 11:55

I made my own bobbin for PR with big beads, wire and a lollipop tube...

Look up how to make a homemade bobbin on YouTube and that first result is the one i used :)

The PR is only good for dropping stuff like jigs, live baits etc, I used it for casting once and it was horrible. The Albright is by far my favourite knot and as long as you don't lock up youur drag its nice and strong!!

Umm

Mon, 2015-05-04 12:12

on an albright the tag end actually faces the wrong way for casting and rattles through the guides so is worse for casting than any FG or PR would ever be.

PR knot

Fri, 2015-05-08 15:37

this knot would be one of the easiest knots to tie if you have a bobbin, also it is basically no thicker than the leader itself when it is tied.

Its strength is pretty much 100%.

Cant imagine why you would have problems casting with it as the very tiny bit of tag end would only get caught when retrieving but even that is unlikely.

I use it and both my main rods spin and overhead have tiny tips and this knot is as smoothe as silk.

Yeah I will have a look at the GT knot. I used to do the FG, but found it a bit time consuming but if it is worth the time, I will definately keep doing it!

Depending on what your doing, try just tying braid to swivel then swivel to a trace at a length that is comfortable to cast.

GT or FG

Mon, 2015-05-04 20:31

Ive been using the GT as well, but the below link shows an easy way of tying the FG knot. FG looks a bit slimmer than the GT.

I hope the link works.

Bradz, great link, think that is by far the easiest way I have seen for an FG knot

Cheers

Bimini to GT for me. Just

Bimini to GT for me. Just remember with the GT knot to moisten it well and keep feeding the braid down onto the leader as you tighten the knot. This seems easy but often you can tighten the braid and end up with it not pulling down properly.

I often fish for snapper and find a spider hitch instead of a Bimini is suitable for this.

That's the one Andy, most

Sat, 2015-05-09 20:35

That's the one Andy, most times for the sort of fishing we do in metro or southwest waters a spider hitch will do the job.

Little different when I go north though as there's always a lot more chance of a monster fish so definitely a bimini to GT on those ocasions.
