Wilson live fibre are a good quality rod with a soft tip and plenty of butt grunt. Should be able to get one within your budget.

Have a look at the Ugly Stick blue water series - and they aren't as prone to high stick snapping - or so i'm told

The Ugly Stik Bluewater are

The Ugly Stik Bluewater are still graphite rods wrapped with fibreglass outlay. So I wouldnt go high sticking it even tho its an Ugly Stik!!

They are great value rods. The PE5 overhead sells for just over $200. With the Fishwrecked discount, even better again!!

Got them in stock so drop by and check it out.

Go the Ugly Stick

Ive had one for near on 10 years and it hasn't skipped a beat. In fact I have several.

My advice is to go light enough to enjoy the fight of 90% of the fish you will catch but strong enough to win the battle with the 10% of fish that will give you a run for your money.

I hate watching guys fish with broomsticks and have no bend in the rod at all. No fun in that imo.

Lemax JigKings around that

Tue, 2010-01-12 16:28

Lemax JigKings around that weight have a reasonably flexy tip and some grunt in the bottom end, reasonably priced too... I think they're under two hunjy. I used one up in Exxy with a Saltist 40 and brought up plenty of nice reds and annoying small sharks. Don't look half bad either.

Not a very good shot but this is one of the lighter models with an eagle ray giving me some curry and a deep water pinky.
