Boat gone missing

Got a call from the police yesterday arvo requesting I contact Gnaraloo station about a boat that had dragged or lost its anchor. Seems 4 blokes were diving and when they surfaced their 5 metre tinny was nowhere to be seen.
They were lucky to survive a 2 hour swim back to shore as anyone who has dived up there can vouch for. Not entirely sure where exactly the boat went from but from my estimates just north of the sanctuary zone.

Going by past results my reckoning is the boat should come in round Cape Farquar or further north towards Warroora, that is if its anchor doesn't snag up while the boat is in the breakers, signalling the end of it

Four blokes diving?  Means at least one could have stayed in the boat..... sorry to be so blunt, but that's just plain stupid.....

You've never been diving when everyone jumps in for a look?

i think a simple anchor check would have been in order

 It's great being safe while

It's great being safe while diving in the water, until you come back and find your boat gone.  It's smarter to leave someone in the boat so it doesn't go missing.  Why can't three divers buddy up?  And the next day a different bloke stay on board.

Sounds like common sense to me....  problem is that's not too common.

And who is to say they didn't do an anchor check?  Perhaps the anchor looked fine.  Maybe the rope broke (like mine did recently at steep point, whilst I was in the boat and realised straight away).  Maybe a shackle that wasn't wired came loose.

Bottom line is that if one (or two) had stayed with the boat, they would still have a boat and not put their lives at risk.

FWIW: 3 blokes sticking together is still sticking to the buddy system.

Hopefully their tinny turns up, but while waiting, buy a Lotto ticket.

 No point buying a lotto

No point buying a lotto ticket. Their luck is all used up, they just won the lottery.

Cheers
