Blue Bastard Video

Here is a video from the weekend just gone. Mark Davis and I went looking for Blue Bastards up here and found some. Once hooked this fish decided to run through the mangroves and out the other side. Being a brand new flyline, MD decided to jump in and follow it through the branches.

You have got no option but to jump in and chase, there is no time to look for your shoes. Well worth it.

Thanks for the link fix BOD. =)

There was time to get some feet protection. Next Im involved stiching up feet or treating a stonefish envenomation. No fish is worth that risk, let alone a blue bastard (painted sweetlip, Diagramma labiosum). My cat wont eat that.

 Thanks Neels, most people

Thanks Neels, most people would say that a Blue Bastard is not worth anything. Just wait till you see one's tail wave around in 50cm of water and you are there trying to stalk it with a piddly little fly rod and a crab fly. Then they become so worth it.

When you "accidentally" hook them whilst fishing for other species they do put a a screaming fight, and your mind start wondering what the hell is this. Bit disappointed when they surface but then still good fun. In a post some time back I wrote told off a patch we found your the Mrs hooked 4 large bastards in a row, then I landed one.

She had to rest after the 4th. I wave the wand, but dont know if I would like to tackle a big one on a 8wt, maybe 10!!
