Trying to work this out
Are you saying that you had tuna jumping about in your groin? must have been a strange feeling!
the groin areas are the two creases at the junction of the torso with the legs, [1] on either side of the pubic area.
Maybe you meant Groyne

Yep your spelling is right but your punctuation needs some work. "spellings" needs an apostrophe between the g and the s.

A long time ago
A good size YFT was captured in the Swan River by an angler fishing at night for mulloway.
Story was published in the Fridays West at the time. Apparently heard lots of large splashes before his line took off. Must of thought it was the mother of all mulloways.
I think it was off Coode St jetty.

YFT
YFT while not common seem to get caught in that vicinity every year. Amazing what will follow large ships in close.
There is a post on here somewhere of a longtail that was caught off the mole or Asi (cant remember which one). Every year there are reports of large tuna busting up off the groynes.
YFT have been seen within casting distance of shore in Warnbro sound in the last few seasons so it is always possible.
Like everything they always seem to show when your not ready for them. Hopefully next time you will have better luck.

It goes to show how little a lot of people
actually know doesnt it.The last time we had la nina in 1998/99 we had a lot of marlin caught and a lot of YELLOWFIN not longtail tuna or southern blues were hooked of the palm beach jetty and the asi groyne from memory.Dont think many if any got landed as they were fairly large fish.I am sure someone will google up a storm and correct me if im wrong but they have been seen, hooked and lost down there before and i am sure it will happen again.

copy that allrounder,
a lot of newbies, youngen's, and ammy's that reckon if they havent heard of something, then it has never happened.
they should probably spend a bit more time researching, before shooting off their mouths.
i think you will find that was around the same time (98/99), a marlin was caught and bought in at busselton.

Who really cares about what
Who really cares about what species of Tuna it was? I want to know why some people are so quick to doubt some of the posts/posters on here? Is it jealousy? Or is it that people like to try and make themselves out as experts, when a lot of the time, they have absolutely no idea?
Not a dig at everyone, just some that need to calm down and actually go fishing like Matt did. Maybe then you'll hook a Tuna and then be able to tell us what species it is.

The Tuna caught at Coode
The Tuna caught at Coode Street was reported by Mike Roenfeldt. Tim Carter probably knows more info. Ill see if I can find the article.
Found this in 1919:
I will take such action as will bring the supply of fish more directly to the consumer in sonme of the suburbs. It will probably be surprising to many to know the Swan River produces something between 240,0001b. to 300.0001bh. of fish per annum. This of course. is only the quantity known to the Fisheries Department.

Just to get stirred but serious
A few months back in the cooler weather up here in Dampier we caught a weird looking Trevor. I know a little about this family, but this was odd. At sea I thought it was a odd diamond trevally but on return to terra firma looked up my "fishes of Oz" books and was still stumped.
Now one of the latest issues of WA angler, West Oz fishing magazine etc had a great photo of a Trevally that I recognized. That was a gaint version of the trevor I caught up here in Dampier (mine was about 5kg max). Now that fish according to the cover photo discription was a pompano.
Now I am certain that the 2 fish looked the same, especially the tail fin that reminded me at the time off a mackies. IMO I am sure now that it was this fish (or a very close relative) in a small version I caught, but as far as I can see from the books it doesn't occur here in Dampier.
With this lead I did a little research and found out my original idea off Diamond trevally was on the money but not right. It did look absolutely like a African Pompano.
My question then in this thread is have anyone else caught one up here or south, where was the one in the cover photo caught.

When the water temp is right,
When the water temp is right, plenty of northern species can be caught south of their normal habitat. I know people that have hooked Spanish Mackeral off Busselton. One year in Bunbury, a Marlin was seen jumping out where the ships are moored. All acurate accounts when you look at water temps. Huge Blue Marlin can be caught off the Capes if you have the ability to get off shore into the 100mtr zone, but in years gone by, huge Blue Marlin have been caught out from Dunsborough. You only have to go to the Dunsborough Rec and Sport Club to see one on the wall!
Unfortunately a lot of young people think they know everything just because! My advice is to never criticise anything you know nothing about but keep an open mind and research subjects spoken before forming an opion. If anything, it will broaden your horizons.
Below is a site you can copy and paste into your browser. Note the water temps at the moment down the coast.
