Another tagged fish recapture

Got out for my first fish this year. The usual weather, work, family and other commitments have been getting in the way.

Did the usual whiting session followed by the deeper demersal chasing. Slim pickings for most of the day, but we managed a coupld of big breaksea and an 8kg Pinky.

All I personally contributed was a bunch of undersize dhuies that were all returned. One of them I had caught, tagged and released 393 days earlier. It had grown 5cm in that time.

That's quite a few I have recaptured now, so a little bt more confidence for those out there that still doubt you can successfully release undersize fish. The more you look after them on the way up the better they are on the way down. None of the fish I have recaptured have moved more than a few hundred metres.

Andy what do you do with the data. Is it passed on to fisheries, ie is there a research project going on.

Be very interesting to see some of the raw (or otherwise) data.

Cheers

You may be able to get some info from the infofish website and follow the links to the Westag site or hit up their facebook page

I am not so sure they have published any data as yet.

With the frames donated to the science guys.

I tag 5 for every one I keep so the odds are still good so I don;t mind keeping a tagged fish.

 They grow at different rates

Wed, 2014-02-26 19:53

They grow at different rates ,I would think depending on food in the area  .We have seen varying growth rates in dhufish, some slow and some quick .Who knows. The main thing is they don't drop dead as soon as they hit the bottom .I guess that is more the point off the exercise.
