alvey reels?

i have noticed they use alveys a lot on deep sea fishing charters?
whys that?
are they fool proof or something?
im not really familiar with alveys haha

More of a bloody winch than
More of a bloody winch than anything else, less working parts so barely anything can go wrong.
Giant spool capacity (easy 600m of 80lb mono)
Cheap, Reliable and easy to use.
other than that i would have no clue.

Winch em in and take em home!!!!
200 pound hand lines with a pair of gloves does the same thing.

They are relatively low cost and easy to maintain
compared to the spinning and overhead reels. A pain in the arms if you hook a decent Sambo at depth.
