2018 crays

So it's coming up to that time of the year. I've fished the whites the last 3 years and have done very well out of Freo. Any news on what state the Crays are in at the moment? Whens everyone dropping their pots in? I'll probably drop late November then start pulling in December. Hope the weather is as good as it was last year

So I just think they have started a month later this year, hopefully catches start to improve this weekend. I got 7 keepers 10m’s deep, way inside the 3mile today and 1 keeper from 20m’s deep on the back edge of the 3.

Two Rocks
My son is a pro cray fisherman out of Two Rocks. They have been averaging 20 a pot for around 10 days now. Just moved some out to 20 metres but the inside ones are still better. Hopefully Ocean Reef will fire soon, but based on what he's telling me, I'm surprised we are not getting big numbers now.

I've monitored the run for
I've monitored the run for 15 years so have noticed a few things.
What I've found is on average the run starts about the 5th December.
Last year the run started 3 weeks earlier.
About 5 years ago we had a run that was late,about 12 December.
There's alot of guys bleeding down at the ramps but they will all be eating crays st xmas.

Spoke to some guys at the ramp who said they were in 20-25m and were doing well.. may have to move deeper if we keep getting doughnuts haha

By my reckoning water is about 3 degrees cooler than this week last year. Had a surface temp of 18 at OR this morning.
Also saw a graph in the PGFC newsletter this week that the water waaaay off shore was 20 degrees late last month but had dropped 19 by 2nd Dec. but that’s waaay off shore and closer to shore was another 2-4 degrees cooler.

obviously bombed that pot with the other 3 pots - hopefully better numbers tomorrow...hopefully!
insane busy ramp at OR this morning, was full on from 415 onwards, back in marina by 515 but it was 550 before getting boat back on trailer and off home. Not much stacking space inside the marina if jetties are all full...glad it wasn’t windy else might have been playing bumper cars.
Happy to say nobody yelling or carrying on...everyone patient.

Cluster fuck for us Chris, my mate's dinghy motor started playing up as soon as we put it in gear
under load. What a load of fun on the beach with a boat loaded with pots getting waves up the arse end and full of water trying to load back on the trailer FFS. New Ranger went well on the sand though one consolation. Just not menat to be for us at the moment.
One good think though the diggers and front end loaders were up there fixing the ramp corrosion so maybe in a week I'll be able to launch the Quinny.
