1st time offshore fishing on a charter.

Hey guys, well me and a mate are finally going to try our hand at some offshore fishing and we're booked in for Wednesday next week with Port Bouvard Charters.
We're both new at this. We each have a TLD 25 with 15kg mono on 15-24kg strokers. Should we bring them? Because I'm not too keen on what I think are the alvey setups provided by the charter. We don't have any boat rods apart from that.
Cheers
Gareth

port bouvard are great
use your rods, braid would be better and they will supply all rigs and bait. have a great day

Thanks for the info. I've just respooled mine recently and have yet to put on a wind-on leader. Would 300lb suffice? Would they do any trolling?

Think he is suggesting you
Think he is suggesting you fish as far away from the other anglers on board as possible. Big tangles occur when everyone fishes on top of each other.

I wouldn't go as heavy as 300lb for a leader. More like 90-110lb.

x3 on the leader, hooked a
x3 on the leader, hooked a stupid shark (maybe the shark hooked a stupid angler) on 55lb braid and 100lb leader the other week and spent an hour busting my back and still couldnt lift the bastard, even when we turned the boat and thumbed the spool (two thumbs) it still didnt bust off for a while, haha for once my knots held. basicly if you cant lift the fish with that gear dont waste your time trying. (done it twice now wont be doing it again, almost never learn from my mistakes)
Here we go again.

And if you happen to snag the leader, its also a bitch to break
it. 50lb braid is often more like 80lb, and your braid may bust anywhere up the line. So the max leader 80-120lb. Above that youl need a fighting chair and huge Tiagra.
Cheers

Hahas my bad :S
It's actually my ballooning rod hence the 300lb leader I use.
Well I'm not using any braid, so 15kg mono and 100lb leader it is then.
Is there anything else I should bring?
