Taken in 30 metres of water, x-rap 30 magnum, 9 knots, 15kg mono, part of a double hookup with the other fish being a 6 kg mac tuna.
WTF?

big cod marauders...
or is it a Queensland Groper?
my money would be on this bad boy trying to eat your Mac tuna - these big buggers are pretty ferocious/ambitious when it comes to hooked fish...and he has hooked himself in the meantime - mate you did bloody well to get that one up on that gear!! Kudos!!!
I was at Steep Pt a few years ago, was trying all 2-week trip to get a mackie, spinning (was the wrong time of year for em, so spun almost all day every day the whole time!!...), finally got one in the last days, nice ~6kg shark mackeral, played it out, wicked fight everything going according to plan, had him tuckered out at the base of the cliffs, Dad was in the spot with the pole gaff, about to hit it, and up comes that big groper that hangs out at the Fault Line there - we all saw it, clear as day, eat my 6kg shark mackeral - SIDEWAYS!! Imagine that? the mackie musta been, what 70cm long?
Then it turned around, casually swam back down as my 6kg outfit slowly went zzzzz....zzzzz....zzzzz....zzzz all the way to the bottom...not much I could do about it!! That groper does very well out of fisherman 'donating' fish to it...
I wonder how old they are - those big ones...

Stalking
Yeah I've got my money on him stalking the mac tuna just as he saw the lures flash buy.
Helped hooking him 20 metres from the bottom as well.
