Buying Local or Over the Net?

Hey Gang!

Im wanting to buy a new saragosa 18000 reel, so off i went today to the local tackle shop here in karratha. I had already saw the price of 389 of the internet, so i wanted to try keep my money local and see what price they could do for me.

They had one in stock, loaded with braid (not sure what type/lb) for 538 i think from memeroy. The best they could do was 450, without braid. I going to have a look tomorrow at the new tackle shop here, and check on their price.

Whats everyones thoughts on keeping money local vs saving money?

given that you earn

$11ty thousand a minute in Karratha and your rent is like $1500/week on average, whats $60 between mates. Keep it local I say. Or one day you wont have a "local".

And bear in mind, you have to freight it up to karratha? That'll be another $30 at least.  so we are talking $30. Plus an internet shop wont "shoot the s**t" with you while you wait for them to spool it up.

local for that amount - if

local for that amount - if it breaks and you bought it on the net to save $40 then I wouldn't blame the local guy to tell you to get rooted. Being in business I am a bit biased but we don't take the risk as a charity for others. Every business has a right to make a profit, provided they give the service, product and value that customers deserve, and I am bloody sure that trying to staff a shop in Karratha would be either bloody expensive or impossible given the pay rates they are up against. If the shop owner does not give service, and acts like he doesn't want your business then by all means, don't give it to them.

local

my local will 95% of the time beat internet prices.

yeh i spend $$ in his shop but he looks after his clients.

can't complain and although it took some time to reach this $$ association he knows the value of "feet do the talking"

no brainer for me

For well-known gear, local is the best, even it it does cost a bit more...mainly because of the customer service, keeping local people employed, etc.

However, I like to browse the online shops and hunt around for obscure and oddball stuff (lures, mainly) that simply can't be found at the corner tackle shop, or even any of the big metro ones. I think there's a lot to be said for chucking a lure out there that you KNOW none of the fish have ever seen before!

Buying!

Thanks for coming in Jes, yeh if ppl say they're FW members we supply cheaper again!

Ryan comment on this (Oceanside Hat Off) If the price is nearish then support Local as it will return to you in the long run. That being extra discounts/deals/extra service/where the good fish are bitting ect. I do agree that Local shops can be competative but you need to talk to them....give em an opportunity!

(Shop hat on) We at Oceanside appreciate our customers giving us the chance, we'd rather close that gap and get your support/business than nothing at all...works two ways!

BCF have the occasional good

Thu, 2008-11-13 05:27

BCF have the occasional good special, but the rest of the time they're usually more expensive than your local, whomever that is. They do have 15% off Owner hooks right now, I wonder how that compares!
