Landbased Exxy 05/10/2008 - 12/10/2008

Hi folks.

Flew up to exxy between 05th of October to the 12th and hit the following land based spots:

Marina - only saw a lady land a 50cm cod

Learmonth - caught heaps of big whiting, heaps of bream, 2 squid and a remora

Bundegi ramp - 30cm+ bream on tap

Jacobs - charlie cod, variety of small reef fish and baby blue bone

5 mile - same

Bauden - same

Neds camp - bugger all

The fishing was very average compared to last year, when i got into sharks, mackerel and queenies.  Still had a great holiday.

For you local guys, has this year been particularly bad for bigger land based fish up in exxy ???

hey mate, we've used europcar + budget up there.

we pay extra for the full cover package, as there is an 80% chance you will hit a roo, emu or sheep while you're there.

School

Saw a school of 50+ queenies upto 2kg swimming in the marina yesterday as we were taking the fisheries boat out. Jacks under the refuelling jetty. Spanglies at 5mile on the lead up, queenies at bundegi. 15kg spaniard on popper taken at Mildura last week, 20kg GT taken north of the pier, all landbased

Don't really bother much with landbased though, but the fish are there. Things are really starting to fire up big time, baitfish everywhere in the gulf.  Oh yeh, the heat is coming big time too!

hey dasho slightly relieved to hear that someone else also had a pretty average fishing trip to exmouth! was there for a short trip 6/10-10/10 caught jack all landbased (just some little bream/cod/cuda's) and three 35cm+ charlie courts on the charter...very disappointing!

Tried lures/bait/soft plastics/metals!! on the boat we even trolled within a massive bait school, birds diving n all but still no takes!

Hi jus.

An old fella who I met on the jetty told me he had been going to exxy every october for the past 20yrs and never seen it so dead.

Sounds like we were in the right place at the wrong time.

Oh well, hope next year cranks.

This happens to me too

Mon, 2008-11-10 16:07

This happens to me too often!!

In march 2006 had the chance to house sit a mates house in broome for a week, along with permission to use his 4.5m runabout - sounds like the perfect holiday doesnt it? ....except the sat we got there was the day the cyclones came! stayed indoors the whole week with gale force winds, 10.5m tides and zero fish caught.

I guess this just means we get to catch double as much next year!

Exmouth

Mon, 2008-11-10 17:33

Just came back from exmouth last night and fished land based all week. Worked hard but we got fish

Plenty of massive bluebone

plenty on mid sized spangos

queenies

Little-medium GTs

Never seen so many sharks on the flats in my life

Big Barracuda

And a few miss hook ups from 10-15kg Gs and XOS Queenies

Had a ball....all caught on lures except the bluebone were on crabs!

Cheers,
Sam

Hi Sam,
Im headed up that way in like 12 days, land based as well but on a 2WD. Looking for big Gs and Qs. Never been up that way before. Any specific locations I should try?

Sam, not a bad trip. Where?

Tue, 2008-11-11 12:55

Sam, not a bad trip. Where are the hotspots(landbased) for encountering spanglies, XOS queenies and GT's!? not familiar with Exmouth landbased.

Any tips will be appreciated.
