hey hurricane, plenty of ground out there dude, both north and south..... have you got a sounder ( oops just re-read ya post)?? if not, just look in the water seeing as your fishing relatively shallow....look for reef with sand pathes, anchor in the sand and drift the boat back onto the reef, and burley the hell out of it...no skippy in half a hour try another spot...

Not sure what your question is? Are you asking what is the best spot for a decent fish out from the Hillary's Marina? or What is a good spot for a decent somewhere apart from Hillarys. If it is the first, then I think the above suggestions will put you onto some decent fish. If not, then the options are endless.

Is hillarys still in the exclusion zone for not requiring a Epirb when more than 2kms off shore??? Might need to be mindful of this if it isn't.

Hi Rueben

Try the 3 mile reef out from hillaries and slowly move yourway south as you get more experienced with your boat.  Lightly unweighted baits with plenty of berley and you should be able to pick up some pinkies.

I wouldn't do it without a gps mate, that should be your next investment in the boat if you are looking to go out further out and get into it a bit more seriously.  One of the guys on here was selling a laminated hillaries map not long ago, a worthy investment. Just spend time close to the marina until you familiarise yourself with the markers and the breaks.

Cheers,

Adam
