Golden ponds bash saturday 16th
Submitted by tailor marc on Sat, 2008-08-16 19:59.
Well with all this talk about golden ponds , i thought i would go take a look see.
Got down there and bought some tinned corn, some pellets and walked to the pond behind the shop where you pay. I couldnt belive my eyes! Some real big rainbow trout in there.
I tryed puttint the pellets on the hook but they were tiny round hard things and wouldnt go on the hook and kept braking.
I tryed the corn but the trout were very cautious! They would come up for a look but swim awaywithout taking it.
I came up with a idea of flicking it out an jigging it like a insect through the water alost like a lure and sure enough thats what they liked. Caught 5 and kept 3 .
All in all a good day out!

Soften the pellets with
Soften the pellets with water, they go soft after a while them use them to catch your trout, I think the shop sells the dark coloured pellets.

Lovely fat fish Marc,
Did they taste "liverish"? Do you know if they let you fish with your own gear, flyrod flies etc or is it all bait?
Cheers dave
I`d rather be fishin`!!!

Cheers Adam!!!
Dave: my old man cooked them up just a hour ago and said they tased great! He pan fried them with this recipe below....
Pan-fried Trout
Use a tiny amount of oil. Pan fry on medium heat for two to three minutes a side. Toss in slivered almonds and a squeeze of lemon juice near the end, or
roll in oatmeal and cook for two to three minutes as above.

Awh Marc you now how to get the saliva flowing!
Thanks for the recipe. Dasho what do you regard as first thing? They wouldnt open at dawn would they?
The pellets must be greatly improved to those fed in the victorian fish farms ( going back a while) The trout that reached the restaurants had a distinct liver taste compared to the wild fish. Giveaway was the bottom lobe of the tailfins rubbed away on the concrete ponds & sometimes the adipose was trimmed off or the dorsal pruned depending on the farm. Most be like tagging a cows ear!!
I`d rather be fishin`!!!

if you go down take some
if you go down take some whiskas cat biscuits, they come in a doughnut shape, couple on a hook and absolutly deadly if the lures are abit slow!

Lures abit slow?!? Go there
Lures abit slow?!? Go there in the morning and fish til lunch. You'll have a ball. Plastics work really well, follow but shallow diving floating/suspending minnows. My fave is surface lures. Small poppers, stickbaits and even SP frogs.
Me and my mate got real bored and fished there for nearly the whole day, we tried to fish every pond and managed over 40 fish between us and NO BAIT involved.
They're in a pond, they'll be there just need to find a lure that works.
