Fishing Log
As a keen believer in providing ANY sort of valid info to DoF, I signed up for the VLBP (Voluntary Log Book Program). The way I see it, the more of us that do it, the better will be the data (and therefore information) that DoF can use and hopefully there will be less reliance on opinion etc etc (you know the story LOL).
Anyway, I quickly found out that the Log Sheets, although VERY well designed (and free!) are hard to complete legibly on the water (quickly starts looking like a kiddies crayon session (or one of Sherbs maps ) ).
I'd previously approached Adam about this problem, and being ever helpful, he suggested I request one of the dive slates that DoF offer (and passed on the idea to them that the starter packs that DoF use, should include the dive slate) - I could then use this as a (scratch) field sheet.
This info can then be neatly transcribed onto the Log sheet and it has the additional advantage of not having to take the Log Book out with me (and therefore risk water damage etc).
However, I wanted to ehance the field sheet to also serve as a fishing log (something I previously have not been perserverent at keeping!)
SO! (Sorry for the long preamble) - here it is.
What do you think? Any improvements you can suggest?
If anybody wants a copy (it's a std MS Word Doc using tables) - just sent me a PM with your email address. Always happy to help out a fellow forum member.

Information Brodie
DoF provide you with a number of self addressed replied paid envelopes. So all you have to do is complete the Log sheet in the book they provide you.
Each sheet is numbered (I presume they keep a register of the range they give you) and there is a self carbonated copy for each sheet. You simply complete the white sheet and tear it out (perferated), pop it in the envelope and post it back.
It's that easy.
The whole process is free, you're providing valuable actual information back to DoF and you get a record of your fishing in a nice little book to boot. I think that's fantastic!
There's different editions of the book - I have the Ocen Edition. They provide instructions and even a sample sheet.
AND, those that submit them back to DoF are in the chance to win a prize.
How good is that!

Good on you for showing interest - I think all Rec fishers should use them.

Cheers Col mate I will definatly be getting the log book. Any info that they get these days has to be a good thing with the threat of fishing bans etc.

Agreed Brodie
With so many diverse groups and opinions, we recreational fishos can, at times, feel a pit 'disempowered'. Well the Log Books is definately an opportunity to play a part and invest in our future and hopefully contribute to good solid data.
Good on you Brodie!

Thanks Mate
I have sent an email to Mike Hammond on the web address you gave me and requested the estuary and oceanic books as I do a fair bit fishing up the river and in the peel inlet as well as out deep.

Important Note
Just remember guys, the sheet I knocked up is NOT a replacement for the DoF Log Books - it's there as a field sheet as I explained.
So, as they say, 'Get with the program'
How often to get BOTH get something for nothing and provide essential info?
